There are people in this world stronger than me who aren't engineered like I am. There is a war goin' on in the shadows, soldiers on both sides, stronger than the rest. I have a feelin' that the government only has a small portion of these. I can't be the only one like me, if they could do it to me then they could do it to more. and with the technology I have begun to discover that exists, who knows what kind of people could be out there?
I have to get away. He was right, I jumped into this and I didn't know what I was gettin' into.
I didn't want to go to sleep again.
The sedative Myral administered on the plane never did knock me out, instead I was simply groggy and stumbled through the procedure of flying home and being admitted to a hospital.
"Wow, he is very lucky," I heard a voice say.
"How am I lucky? I grumbled.
"He's coming around," a female voice said.
"I've been around. You didn't give me enough to knock me out,"
I focused my eyes to see a woman in hospital garb looking at a clipboard with an x-ray scan on it. Beside her stood a man wearing scrubs who was presumably the nurse. Sitting in chairs near them, were Dale, along with my family,
They saw me looking around and stood up and began to come over.
"Get out," I said to them sternly.
I did not care to associate with people who had decided to do this to me so callously.
"The patient has the right to refuse visitors," the doctor said.
My so-called family exited, leaving Dale along with the two doctors.
"The bullet didn't hit any bones in your shoulder, it appears to have gone straight in and out without permanent damage, you won't even need a cast," the doctor informed me.
"Alight. Then can I get out of here?" I asked.
"Don't be so hasty, your back needs a lot of time to heal after that fall, Even with your regeneration I'm not sure how long it will take," the nurse told me.
"Thank you. May I talk to Dale for a little while?" I asked.
"Sure, there isn't much more we can do for you right now. Try and get some rest," the doctor said.
She and the nurse promptly left.
"You were a little harsh to your folks,"
"They deserve less for what they've done to me," I spat.
"Perhaps. I guess that you have questions?" Dale asked.
"You are," I said, "How'd you know that he was goin' to shoot?"
"I saw a glint of light coming off of his scope, based on the angle he was aiming for you, not me," Dale told me, "Sorry about the hit by the way,"
"Much preferable to my head gettin' blown off," I told him.
"That was my thought as well," Dale said, "Though it was strange for him to aim that badly. He's getting sloppy,"
"That man said somethin' about me being your new apprentice, what did he mean by that?"
"I helped trained him, before he went bad, then you all this time later,"
I nodded in acknowledgement.
"Who is he?" I asked.
"His name is Drake Hensley," Dale said, "It all started a long time ago,"
