You're like me too Myral? And this Bryant is my prototype? Not to mention people like Dale and Drake and the mysterious Vindicator, or the person I had briefly seen on the cameras inside of the New Dawn base. I've been played. I'm not a unique specimen, I'm the newest part of a species. A species of soldier far far more powerful than the rest of the people in the world.
By the time I'd found my allies and we'd made our way back to the base. everyone was gone. Dawn corpses lay in the halls long after the rings of the bullets that had killed them had faded. Bryant, Drake and Myral were all gone without a trace. The Mysterious Dawn soldier was nowhere to be found either. Military forces had quarantined the beach and the base and begun an investigation.
No spoke on the plane ride back after I had told them what happened at the installation.
We either all slept or sat in separate seats.
Dale disembarked after we landed and went to his car and slammed the door before driving away.
Jack got into his with Cie'loth and I and we tailed him all the way back to FIAT. Only Jack and I left the car and both wanted to force some answers out of Dale. I saw the same sullen-looking receptionist at the desk. He looked up upon hearing my footsteps, but didn't react to either of us.
Jack beat me to Dale's door and let the laser read his eye.
"Authorize access, Jack-alpha-one," he said, causing the door to unlock itself.
"What was that?!" I asked, barging into Dale's office.
"Neither of you have clearance to know that," he said, not even looking up from the clipboard that he was studying.
"I Don't have clearance!" Jack yelled, "Do you care to explain why he fought another G-E-E? Or why Myral suddenly turned out to be an Original in our ranks without us knowing? Or do I not have clearance for that either?"
"You both are on a need-to-know basis and that is that I can tell you for now,"
"Did you see what those two did!?" I asked angrily, bending down to look at Dale face to face, "Trust me. I need to know,"
"Come back tomorrow and we'll discuss it," he said commanded, "I will be in touch after we go through the proper channels to report this incident,"
"Godamnit Dale!" I roared, and brought my fist down on the table, causing it to smash in two.
Dale looked up at me and dropped his clipboard on the broken table,
"Well, that's inconvenient," he said almost jokingly.
"What was that?" I repeated.
"I want to tell you, but even I can't," he said. "I do have a perfect record though, maybe I can pull some strings with my advisors," he said.
"You better," I said, and left with Jack on my heels.
As I walked out of the building, I heard footsteps running behind me, approaching. Spinning around, ready for a fight, I saw that it was only a police officer.
"Sorry," I apologized, "Kinda jumpy,"
"Agent Richardson wants a word with you," he said.
I sighed and went back inside to Dale's office.
"I can't pull strings without my desk," he said innocently.
I grabbed the two halves and compacted them together for a quick fix, then turned and left. Jack drove me back to the bunker. We went to his information center and Jack started pulling up files.
