I'm such an idiot. How could I have thought I could get away? These people are after me and they aren't going to let escape from them.
Rain splashed onto the street as Drake took a step closer.
"Get away from me!"
"You can't run forever," Drake said, disappearing in his painful flash only to reappear and slam into me.
I went flying back onto the cold ground as Drake rematerialized in his original spot across the street.
A flutter of cloth sounded above the street.
Armored feet smashed into the rain soaked ground of the street. The man in front of me was barely visible in the ailing light. By the sounds he made when he stepped, the man was completely covered in armor. A metallic ring sounded as he pulled a massive weapon from his back.
"Ah," Drake began with a sneer, "The Vindicator,"
"Step away from him," came the almost metallic sounding voice from the man in front of me.
"You don't really think he'll join you?"
"Perhaps not, but I won't let him be slaughtered by you nonetheless,"
"So be it," Drake retorted and raised his weapon.
The mysterious man charged forward, raising the massive weapon in his hands as he did. He crossed street in a single bound and smashed the sword in his hands down on Drake. The sniper blocked with his rifle and retreated a step. The Vindicator pressed his assault and drove Drake further back with his hammering blows.
Drake teleported in his usual manor and reconstituted, firing before his body had even fully reformed. The bullet flew straight and true, smashing into the face of his enemy with a tink. The soldier who had fought to protect me crashed to the ground from the impact.
Only the sheets of rain and the ringing of the gunshot could be heard now as we both looked at the fallen man. His armored hand flexed and then placed itself on the pavement.
The Vindicator pulled himself up from the ground and lightning flashed around to reveal the yellowed-titanium helmet covering his head. The plates of the hollow-faced helmet were positioned to completely cover the user's face and look like a slight scowl.
"Bad move," he growled, grasping his enormous sword in his left hand and holding his right into the air.
A parked to rattle slightly behind him before suddenly flying into an unsuspecting Drake. The sniper teleported just in time to avoid being crushed flat as the car rammed through the wall of a building. The Vindicator was already charging a blank spot as if anticipating Drake's reappearance. He jumped into the air and pulled his blade up above him. His foe appeared in the spot he was about to hit and disappeared in another flash just as promptly as the sword fighter reached him. His blade sheared through the nearby lightpost effortlessly and sent it to a cold grave in the wet street.
Both men panted and looked at each other as if preparing for the next sequence in their combat. This next sequence would never come though as the sounds of footfalls came from down the street. Three people were approaching rapidly. Both fighting men looked at them and promptly vanished, Drake in his normal flash and The Vindicator in a cloud of black smoke.
"Thame! Thame are you alright?" Dale asked as he reached me still laying on the pavement.
"Be on guard," Braxton said, looking around down the sights of his rifle.
