"Ready to go?"
"Yeah mom I'm coming!"
I stepped back and looked at myself in the mirror on my closet. My light blue dress went down to my calves and my small white flats sparkled. My slightly curled auburn hair laid on my shoulder and my nude eye shadow brought out my bright green eyes. Today was the day my mother and I were headed to a dinner off base for military families. My neighbors invite everyone on base to a local steakhouse in my home town in Kingston, Tennessee every couple months. No one on base is my age, but I like to hang out with the younger kids cause they don't judge my weird quirks. Each family on base has a different story. For my family, it's my father who's in the army. He was deployed last month to Iraq.
I skipped down the stairs to join my mom, and my small handbag was bouncing at my side.
"You look beautiful" my mom said smiling.
I smiled back and grabbed her hand as we made our way to the door.
"Bye Tucker!" I yelled. My tan cocker spaniel ran to my feet and laid belly up, awaiting me to pet him. I patted his belly and followed my mom to the car.
