Once

Once when I was little,
I had a big red kite,
I used to spend hours in the summer,
Watching it take flight.

Once when I was little,
I would go to play in the park,
I used to spend hours in the summer,
Playing until it went dark.

Once when I was little,
I tried to paint different places,
I used to spend hours in the fall,
Painting those various spaces.

Once when I was little,
I wanted to be a millionaire,
I used to spend hours in the fall,
Hunting for money to spare.

Once when I was little,
I would sit by the window,
I used to spend hours in the winter,
Watching and waiting for snow.

Once when I was little,
I decided to draw my dad,
I used to spend hours in the winter,
Using time he never had.

Once when I was little,
I met a pretty girl,
I was mesmerized in the spring,
Watching her stand in the sun and twirl.

Once when I was little,
I had all these great ideas,
But ideas start to disappear,
As do your simpler years.

So when you look back on childhood,
Every once in a while,
I hope you too have happy moments,
That will make you crack a smile.
