"See?!" Ellie turned her head to me, "Doesn't it feel great to be out of that apartment?!"
I gave her a small smile, nodding my head.
"Yeah, it kind of does." I admitted.
She smiled as she focused on the rode again.
It did feel good to be out that apartment. Felt even better to get away from all that studying. Although I will have to make up all of it when I got home. Ugh, the thought is depressing.
A year ago, I would have jumped at the opportunity to get out the house. I would go to every party that was going on in one night. I would get drunk. Wasted. I would wake up in stranger's beds and be totally okay with it. Laugh even.
But that was all before he left.
My father walking out of my life was both the worst and best thing that could have happen to me. As awful as it sounds, it's true.
Although he left my mother and I with nothing; No car. No money. No explanation. He did manage to open my eyes a bit.
I realized I had to grow up for my mother's sake.
My mother took him leaving a bit harder then I did. She absolutely loathed the man. Hates his guts. I, on the other hand, don't.
I realized that for me to move on from all of it, I would have to forgive him. I mean forgiveness is the key to happiness, right ?
After he left, I got myself together. I got a job to help out my mum with bills, and even got us a car. I focused on my studies, finishing my last high school year with straight A's and even getting my high school diploma.
Getting my acceptance letter to The University Of Chichester (UOC) was amazing shock. When I applied, I never dreamt of actually getting in.
My mother cried and so did I. Happy tears turned into sobs when the realization of me leaving kicked in. I would be moving across the globe, out of my small town in Pennsylvania.
I told myself over and over again there was nothing here for me. But seeing my mother crying on my shoulder made me realize there was her. I couldn't leave her here alone. But she refused to let me change my mind. In fact she made me promise I would go to UOC and do something with my life. For me. So the arrangements were made, the bags were packed, and I flew to England that summer. Found a small apartment I could manage to pay myself and even found a job.
I am now currently 3 months into my freshman year of college. So far so good.
I rested my head on the window of the passenger door, watching as everything passed.
Before I knew it my eyes were becoming heavy...
"Allison!!?"
I jumped, hitting my head against the glass at the sound of Ellie screeching in my ear.
"Fuck!" I rubbed the side my head already feeling it swell up. "What the heck Ellie!"
"Are you seriously falling asleep!?" She scoffed as she looked ahead at the rode.
"No," I lied. "I was just...resting my eyes."
"Yeah, sure." She rolled her eyes. "When was the last time you had any fun?" Her eyes still on the rode.
"I actually was haveing plenty fun back at the apartment before you showed up and dragged me out here."
"Really?" She chuckled.
"Yes, really." I huffed crossing my arms and shifting my body to glare at her.
She looked at me for a second then turned back to the rode.
"What?" Narrowed eyes glaring at her with a pouted lip like the child I am.
"You are so up tight."
"Up tight." I repeated as I raised my eyebrow.
"Yes Allison. Up tight. And I know exactly what you need."
"Really?" I rolled my eyes; a terrible habit of mine.
"You need to get laid."
"Oh not this again," I sat back in my seat let my body fall in a slouch.
"What?" She looked at me, amusement clear in her eyes as a smirk curved her lips.
"Listen we've been over this-"
"I just think," she waved a hand casually as she cut me off, "you could use a good fucking and maybe you won't be so tense." She shrugged her shoulders.
"I'm not tense." I mumbled, body still slouched, arms crossed.
She looked at me as she finished parking the car.
"What?" I said through my teeth.
"You're blushing Alli." She smiled before exiting the car, closing the door behind her.
"Dammit." I whispered to myself as I rubbed my cheeks before getting out the car.
The chilly fall winds hit me making me wish I'd brought a sweater.
"We are just in time." Ellie smiled down at her cell phone as she stood next to me.
"In time for what?" I rubbed the cold from my arms as I tried to looked down at her cell, but she locked the screen before I could see, sticking the phone in her pocket.
She grabbed me by my wrist yanking me forward. "C'mon he'll be up any second!"
"Wait, Who? And he'll be up where exactly?"
"Tom." She answered as if it was the most obvious thing ever.
Tom?
Before I could say another word I was pulled into The Night Club. The smell of sweat and bitter liquor hit me, making my hand fly up to cover my nose and mouth.
The club was a bit crowded. It always shocked me how many young faces you would see in a bar. Almost everyone had a drink in there hand. Loud music blared through the club.
Ellie continued to pull me through the hot crowd as we made our way to the side of the stage.
Finally letting go of me, she stood on her tippy toes waving her hand in the air.
"Tom!" She yelled over the music.
Almost on cue a tall blonde guy from across the stage turned around. He seemed a bit confused as he scanned the crowd until his eyes landed on Ellie.
I couldn't tell from where I was standing, but I'm pretty sure he grinned before turning back around motioning the band to stop playing.
Once the music stopped multiple "Boos" and "Awes" filled the club.
The tall blonde took hold of a microphone as he walked to the front of the stage.
"That's Tom." Ellie said in my ear.
I nodded my head at her. She smiled then focused her attention on the stage.
I was still confused.
"How are you all doing tonight?!" Tom's deep accented voice boomed through the club.
The crowd went wild as they yelled and cheered.
"Fantastic!" Tom smiled. "My name is Tom Odell, and I am here to entertain you all. Sound all right?"
Once again the crowd went wild.
"Great!" he grinned.
He walked over to a piano at the center of the stage, taking a seat in front of it.
"This one is called Cruel. Hope you all enjoy."
Placing the microphone on the stand over the piano, he let his hands hover over the piano keys. Taking a deep breath in, he closed his eyes. Then releasing the breath and opening his eyes again.
His hands hit each key with a force echoing off the walls of the club. Almost immediately he was no longer sitting in his chair and then he opened his mouth. A raspy, sexy voice escaping his lips immediately earning a reaction out of the club.
Bass and a guitar, followed by some drums, quickly adding to the sound creating a hard edge to the song.
Ellie screamed at the top of her lungs with everyone else.
I felt my eyes widen. I was deffinitly not expecting this.
He was amazing.
A few more lines into the song and suddenly I was jumping up and down screaming clapping my hands along wih everyone else.
Ellie looked at me as she motioned her head to the front of the stage. I smiled as Ellie grabbed my hand pulling me forward. We raced towards the front of the stage. Fighting passed heavy packed bodies. Immediately beads of perspiration forming on my forehead. I quickly wiped at it, hating the feeling of sweat. As the crescendo of the song neared and neared, it was as if all the bodies packed close together like stuffed sardines as we gradually moving forward, pressing closer to the stage. Ellie and I were suddenly being shoved directly in front of Tom. Ellie yelled once, "Tom". He looked down catching her eyes swiftly while flashing her a smile. As he turned to look at Ellie I was able to finally get a good look at him. I'm embarrassed to say I gasped.
His blonde hair reached just a few inches below his ears, framing his face perfectly. His thin, pink lips glistened as he ran his tough over them between lines of the song. His cheeks aflame from the heat. The pupil in his eyes becoming small dots as the spotlight shined on him making him center of attention. His eyes a deep, dark shade of green. His forehead glistened with sweat as he continued to bob his head to the beat of the song, hair moving with him.
He was otherworldly.
I felt a nudge at my side. I turned to see Ellie eyeing me strangely, mouthing the words "Are you okay?"
I shook my head up and down smiling at her as she raised her eyebrow but turned back to Tom.
I must have been staring but who wouldn't!? I ran my fingers through my curls looking back up at Tom.
With a few more piano keys and some back up from a bass, the song finished.
The club erupted with applause. Multiple people began to whistle as Tom stood up straight, taking a bow.
He was handed a small towel, which he used to dry his face and hair.
He waved to the crowd once more before disappearing behind a wall on the stage.________________________
