I love him.

Liam sat on the couch besides the door, his foot tapping aimlessly on the wooden floor. His nails sat perched on his bottom lip, his teeth biting down on them. His free hand held a phone, that sat on his lap, which his eyes seemed glued to it. He repeatedly tapped on the screen, glancing at the time until the minute changed.

It had been thirty minutes since his party officially started, and no one was here yet. Besides his mother and him, of course. Speaking of his mother, she was currently standing on a stepstool, attempting to hang a banner on the white wall. His father, however, was out buying him a cake his mum had ordered from a local bakery.

He continued staring at his phone and chewing on his nails, often glancing up when hearing his mother let out an annoyed grunt. On the fifth time that it happened, Liam found himself letting out a displeased groan as well.

"What's wrong mum?" He asked forcefully, closing his phone and staring up at his mother's back.

"It just doesn't stick!" She complained and let go of the banner, letting it fall down from the wall.

She began climbing down the steps, until she stood besides the wall, exhaling loudly while staring at the banner. It read, 'happy birthday!' and was successfully taped on one side of it, while the other hung down uselessly.

Liam stood up from the couch, tossing the phone on one of their pillows, before walking towards her. He tapped her shoulder, causing her to turn around. "Tape," he asked and opened his palm towards her, which she furrowed her brow at.

"You're going to hang it up?' Liam nodded and she shrugged, before placing the roll of tape onto his hand.

He brushed her aside lightly, and began climbing up the four step stool. Once he was on the last step, he leaned upwards and grabbed the fallen side of the poster. He inched it up the wall, and moved his body back a bit and took a glance at it. It looked okay to him, not too straight or crooked, but of course, his mother had an objection.

"A little to the right Liam," she told him from behind him and he rolled his eyes, but did as told. As he began climbing back down, she stopped him by placing a hand on his lower back.

"Now, to the right a bit," he turned back towards her and bit back a snarl.

"Mum, really? We're not doing this, alright. Let me get down," she moved back a step, and allowed Liam to jump off the stool.

"But people are going to look at it, Li. You're party has to be perfect," she purred out, and tapped his cheek with a finger.

He grabbed her finger and squeezed it gently. "Mum, we don't even know if anyone's coming."

Karen pulled her finger back from his grasp and raised her eyebrows at him. "Why wouldn't they come?" Liam shrugged. "They're coming, probably stuck in traffic or something. Now, did you take Loki out for a walk like I told you to?"

Liam bit the inside of his cheek and shook his head. Karen sighed, "Then get to it!" She scolded playfully, and patted his bum once he passed by her.

Liam chuckled a bit, she seemed like his friend rather than his mother sometimes. Other times she seemed like a bully rather than a parent.

He walked towards the kitchen, and cooed once seeing Loki slumped across the floor, an empty bowl in front of him. He squatted down besides the dog, and rubbed a hand over his furry head.

"Come on buddy, want to go out for a walk?" As soon as the words left his mouth, the dog's eyes popped open and he practically jumped up. Liam laughed, but patted his head, before quickly grabbing a leash.
