Liam hesitantly stalled outside the door, inhaling and exhaling nervously. His hand gripped his lunch bag tightly, while the other was placed firmly on the doorknob. He'd been in this position for the last five minutes, wondering whether or not he should go in. Finally, he assured himself that he could do this and twisted the knob. The door creaked open and he pushed it gently, watching how it leaned against the wall stiffly.
Cautiously, he crept inside, trying to be as soundless as possible. Of course, he wasn't as successful considering his sneakers kept squeaking with every step, causing him to mutter profanities under his breath. Eventually, he'd close the door behind him, before he headed farther onto the rooftop. He paused in his step once seeing a small frame sitting upon the ledge, almost motionless if it wasn't for his steady breathing to mix in with the howling wind.
Liam was debating whether he could still escape to the bathroom and eat his lunch there, but eventually forced himself to continue. He walked towards the ledge, watching how Zayn didn't even take a second to blink an eye towards his arrival. Instead, he continued grazing over the city below him, an emotionless look on his face.
Liam dropped his bag besides him, before swinging one leg over the ledge, while doing the same to the other. He sat besides Zayn, shoulders brushing causing him to turn towards the other boy with a subtle blush scattered across his cheeks.
"So, are you going to ignore me now?" Liam asked him, while his teeth grazed over his bottom lip nervously.
"Who said that," Zayn turned towards him surprisingly, though his glaring expression seemed to stay permanent. Liam felt a little confused at that, wondering how his tone could be so sensitive and soft, while his face seemed hardened and harsh.
"Obviously not you," Liam joked, face falling when Zayn didn't even croak out a smile, nevertheless a laugh. "So, about earlier today-" He began, but was interrupted by Zayn's voice overpowering his own.
"I'm sorry about that," Zayn spoke, as his eyes lowered from Liam's, and onto his lap instead. His fingers followed the area also, as they traced an unfamiliar pattern around his legs. "I shouldn't have been so rude, but I don't know what happened. I guess I felt jealous from your new friends," he admitted with an embarrassed, pitiful laugh.
Liam raised his eyebrows, shocked. Zayn was jealous of him? But, there was nothing special about him. Liam was a boring boy, who was as interesting as watching paint dry. Yet, he had no idea how Carson even managed to spark up a conversation with him and how people saw the two as 'friends'.
Once Zayn lifted his gaze back up and watched Liam hopefully, the other was knocked out of his thoughts. "Uh yeah, 'm sorry too. And, I wouldn't say that I was friends with them. More like acquaintances," he said while nodding his head.
