Chapter Fifteen

The best part about waking up must be having someone laying besides you, when you first peek your eyes open. Or for Liam's case, having that special someone laying on his lap, nuzzling his tanned face into his stomach. Hesitantly, Liam shifted his arms from where they were wrapped around Zayn's small figure, but paused once the small boy began moving around, pink lips parting to mumble some incoherent words of protest. He frowned and stopped abruptly, sighing and laying back against the bark of the tree.

Then he winced; laying outside with flies swarming around you and a tree as your support, was definitely not a good decision for his back. Or the bottom of his sweatpants either, for he was sure that they were stained with mud by now. Nevertheless, Liam croaked his head upwards and blinked at the darkened sky, wondering when the sun had drifted into its slumber as well and shadowed out the crescent moon instead. When he looked more closely at the sight however, he realized that the twinkling stars resembled the misty pool that sided inside Zayn's eyes, especially whenever he was extra excited.

Liam's chapped lips tweaked at the edges from the thought and his eyes returned to the sleeping boy. Suddenly, he remembered of the words that were last spoken from Zayn's part. 'I like you.' What did that mean in the context of their relationship? Was it mentioned in a friendly matter or a more romantic one? Liam sure hoped for the latter option, considering that would make his troubling heart settle with ease. The confusion of whether to like Zayn or Carson had been quite time-consuming, considering that was all he thought about whenever he wasn't busy with something and often forced him to lose some valuable hours of sleep.

But if he knew that Zayn may actually like him too, that would solve his problem. Yes, it didn't make much sense to only like someone back, once you know that the feelings were mutual. And though that would make many issues easier to solve, love just didn't work like that. Liam only wished he would get at least that much of justice for them, considering he hoped that he would be able to like Zayn more once the confusion was cleared. Then again, things didn't always go Liam's way, and he already knew that dating surely wouldn't be a walk in the park.
