INT. SECOND FLOOR BATHROOM - NIGHT
xavier stands, his hand hovering just above the light switch. he is confused, as a figure sitting in the bathtub legs spilling off the side of the tub offers to leave the light off.
XAVIER
oh man. sorry.
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB
sit with me.
her voice is slurred and he approaches her cautiously, sitting inside the tub. her jaw is sharp and she smells of beer. she sniffles and coughs.
XAVIER
are you okay?
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB
i thought he loved me.
XAVIER
um. i mean-
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB
'spose not. my damn best friend-
she places sardonic emphasis on 'best friend.'
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB
and my boyfriend-
XAVIER
god. god, i'm sorry.
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB
i'm a good person. why do bad things happen to good people?
she hiccups.
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB
ever been in love?
she hiccups again and xavier brings his knees to his chest, considering the question.
XAVIER
yes.
she looks at him, looking innocent and upset. he can just make out the shape of her face and her fiery hair. he laughs nervously because he knows her.
XAVIER
you're not going to remember anyway but, she never knew. i never told her. her name is genevieve and she's the most gorgeous girl i know.
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB
do you still love her?
XAVIER
do i?
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB
i asked you.
a tear falls slowly down her cheek. subsequently, she cries softly. he grabs her hand. hers is sweaty and she looks at him closely.
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB
god i'm so drunk.
XAVIER
i'm really sorry, em.
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB (EM)
give me your number.
you still need to watch that movie by vandever you know and i own the disk on blu-ray.
he pulls out his phone and unlocks it. the glow of the screen light illuminates the space around them.
GIRL IN THE BATHTUB (EM)
i know i look like a mess, okay?
they laugh and she cries some more. a few minutes later she walks over to the toilet and throws up. xavier gets up, wrinkles his nose in disgust but holds her long tangled hair back.
