Judith Hayes skittered back, knocking over the table that was in her way. At the loud crash several people burst into the room. Gabriel was the first person, "Hey Shawn keep it down! You don't want Zachary to hear...." His jaw dropped at the sight before him. I was curious as to what that sight was so I dipped into his mind and saw the room from his perspective.
Shawn was leaning against the wall calmly while Dr.Smith was sitting in a chair across the room writing notes in a journal. Then the main attraction was in the middle of the room. The vet, Judith Hayes was on top of a table on all fours while there was another table flipped over between her and the huge white tiger that was flicking its tail wildly while eyeing the vet.
I hopped back into my own mind. I surveyed the situation again and realized that I was going to have to do something. First I made my lashing tail be still. Then even though all my instincts were screaming at me not to do it I turned my back on Judith Hayes, signifying that I thought she was no threat and also that I was no threat.
I was completely tense the whole time, expecting to be attacked from behind. My gesture paid off though and I heard her spring off the table and put the other table back in its place. I slowly turned back around trying not to make any sudden movements that would startle her again.
I started to limp back to where I had been laying but suddenly the world was lurching around me. I was trying to walk straight but I ended up going back and forth across the room as the walls twisted around me. Eventually I just collapsed to the floor not caring where I ended up.
By now I was breathing heavily and my heart rate was going much faster making more blood come out with every pulse. I could see Shawn looking at me concerned and I could feel him trying to send a thought to me. It took most of my strength to establish a mind connection. His thought immediately assailed my mind when I did. "Vanessa, Vanessa are you okay?" I tried to answer but didn't have the strength. For the second time I sank into unconsciousness. At least this time I wasn't being drugged.
Shawn's P.O.V
My worry increased as I watched Vanessa stagger across the floor. What was wrong with her? I looked at her right shoulder and realized what was wrong with her. There was blood pouring from her wound and there was a trail of blood across the floor where she had walked. I watched as she collapsed and winced. She landed full on her right shoulder wound. I worriedly attacked her with a thought, "Vanessa, Vanessa are you okay?"
I could feel her mind touch mine and I think she tried to answer. I saw her eyes go blank as she passed out. I could finally move and I rushed over to her. I frantically called out, "Judith please can you help her?" She came over and used her stethoscope to check Vanessa's heart rate. Her eyes widened with shock. "Her pulse is abnormally fast." She pushed me back and I didn't protest. I knew I was useless. I watched as she began the gory process of removing the bullet, cleaning the wound, sewing, and bandaging the wound.
I backed away and went over to sit by Dr.Smith. He was watching all this happen calmly. I had nothing to do while I waited and I thought back to the woods. I hadn't been there but when Gabriel, Zachary and the others got back the sight of the delicate looking girl unconscious with blood all over her shocked me.
I was even more shocked when they had told me she was a shifter. When you grow up how I have where every moment you are taught and reminded that shifters are to be feared, hated, and...exterminated. I shudder to think of Vanessa being killed. Judith brought me out of my thoughts as she asked, "Shawn could you come over here and help?" "Sure." I walked over to Judith and she handed me the bloody utensils that she had used on Vanessa's shoulder.
As she cleaned up I set all the things on the counter by the sink. After that I walked over to Vanessa. Judith and I had turned her on her uninjured side before Judith had started working on her. She was breathing deeply and looked very peaceful. As I looked at the neat rows of stitches on her shoulder something weird started to happen. My eyes widened with amazement and I called Judith over.
We watched in silence as the stitches slowly disappeared and the wound closed up leaving a thin white scar going through her white and black fur. I looked at Judith in confusion, "What just happened?" She actually seemed to have some answers, "Her kind heals extremely fast. Once I got the poisonous bullet out she would have been fine, but cleaning and suturing the wound made the healing process even faster."
I couldn't believe at first that Gabriel had shot her and now I couldn't believe that he had shot her and used poisonous bullets. I was going to have to have a stern conversation with him about this. My thoughts were interrupted by Vanessa's calm breathing becoming choppy as she started to wake up.
