Lydia’s POV

After the late night talk I was used to the family.

David had explained that Belle was an unusual little girl, going off into rants and stories about memories with her. He smiled when talking about what she loved doing all the way down to her favorite color of the moment, because it changed monthly now.

He also told some stories on the life of Austin.

And let me tell you, Austin is one amazing guy. Apparently he saved someone’s life and in the town he was held as some sort of mer-hero. Then David went on into telling me some fun facts about Austin, like he had the power to trick people with his mind. Mind tricking –and more magical tricks- were rare with mer-people.

“And then he convinced a guy he was girl!” David’s deep laugh echoed with mine, as he hit the table out of joy. “It was a to-die-for scene.”

“Why was he there?!” I laughed scratching my arms. I was still confused as to how he was able to trick people; was it a feeling he had? A sixth sense?

“No one knows!”

“Hey!” a voice hisses. I turn and look over my shoulder to see Tanya standing there. She looked tired and her flaming red hair was all fussed about. “What’s going on?”

“Are you joining the no sleep club?” I ask sweetly.

“What? David?”

“Its fine Darling, go back to sleep.” He smiles at her and I wondered if Harry and I looked at each other like that. Tanya stared at him and yawned. Her tail shone in the dim light.

“Are you sure?” she asks stretching her arms and I smile politely at her when her eyes look at me.

“Yes, we were just finishing up making plans.” David stands up –okay well extends his body in a vertical position, since us mer-people can’t physically stand- and swims to her. “I’ll be right over.”

“Okay, good night Lydia.”

“Good night Tanya.” I give a small wave while smiling at her retreating figure. “Plans?”

“Yes, I forgot to make them for tomorrow. Austin mentioned where you were found in the water and I now know where to drop you off from that information.” David smiles pulling out some sort of parchment. “Now, it’s about 20 miles out of here.”

“What?” my jaw drops at all the swimming I’ll have to go through. Why was I so lazy?

“That’s not far.” He laughs drawing an X on the page and then a few lines to another X. “You’ll just have to swim with the current until you get to here and then you’ll have to swim the rest of the 4 or 5 miles.” He laughs at my face when he finally looks up. “It’s okay.”

“No that’s not.” I laugh amused by his shocked face now.

“That’s far for a lazy girl!” I cross my arms over my chest.

“Would you rather start now so you can rest later?” he cocks an eyebrow at me. “I’d rather you have Austin with you but I mean…it’s your call.” He scratches the back of neck.

“I think going off now is better.” I smile weakly. “If you don’t mind.”

“I don’t,” he folds up the paper handing it over to me, “But I do.”

“That’s quite confusing.” I laugh taking the paper from his hands.

“I’m a confusing guy, what can I say?” he shrugs his shoulders in a sarcastic way.
