Lydia’s POV
This was unbelievable. This was just a dream; more like a nightmare. This wasn’t happening.
“Hello.” Her smooth and strict voice rings in my ears. I wince at the impact and tone it has, the sound becoming familiar slowly.
I felt like my brain was moving too slow, not comprehending things at the speed it had when I was seven years old. I was in shock.
“What…what are you-”
“I’ve seen it all Lydia.” Her voice grows dark.
“What do you-”
A slap meets my cheek, my face turning from the force. “How dare you!”
“Lydia?” Chace’s voice sounds as he walks out form the living room. His tousled hair shows that he only got up a few hours ago, though it was late evening now. “What’s…who-”
“Who are you?” My mother steps through the door and I feel myself slowly touch the door, the wind taking over to close it. I numbly turn to look up at Chace from over my mother’s shoulder; she had stepped in front of me quickly in defense.
“My name is Chace…Crawford…” He says awkwardly and he rubs the back of his neck.
“What are you doing here?” My mother begins her interrogation.
“I’m living with-”
“Don’t answer her.” I whisper out looking down. All my confidence was gone. All the courage and bright new energy I had gotten over this month was taken from me. Now that my mother was here, I felt small like a child. I felt like I shouldn’t be this sarcastic or brave now to test boundaries.
My mother taught me that boundaries are made for a reason, they should never be crossed.
“Why not Lydia?”
I look up at the sound of my name, “What?”
“Why shouldn’t he tell me why he’s here?” My mother’s hands are planted on her bony hips firmly. Her sleek and edgy yet calm and soothing facial features contort into a glare.
“I um…I don’t know ma’am.” I whisper looking back down.
“Stop mumbling!” She yells, her two fingers pinching my chin to bring back up to look at her. My greens eyes widen as I jump back, ripping my chin from her grasp. I take a step back as I watch her eyes widen in shock. “Oh?” A scary smirk crosses her features and I feel my heart quicken. “You think that now you’ve lied to me for one month, that you can-”
“It’s not-” I try.
“-that you can fight back now? That you’re all that?” She takes a close step towards me and Chace watches us, my eyes meeting his from over her shoulder.
