"Abel."

The young man didn't dare lift his eyes.

His father sighed and took a seat beside his son on his old bed. The room was barely changed since the day he had left for college almost five years ago now. Katherine had wanted to renovate the space and create a study out of the room, but Charles had vehemently refused.

"I know you're upset about your mother. She's tenacious at best, but don't mind her, Abel. I'm so happy that you found someone. I could tell right when you two walked in that he's a good influence on you. I've never seen you smile so brightly."

"I really like him, Dad. I don't understand why Mom can't be happy too."

Abel started crying, and all Charles could do was hold his sobbing son.
