Chapter Four
Six Years Later
*Connor*
The three of us guys were at Zack’s house just watching TV and planning on visiting Calypso for the first time in six years as a surprise. School was about to start in a month so we decided to plan to stay in England for the rest of the summer. The four of us had gotten jobs on our first day of sophomore year so we could save up for this trip. Ever since our first paycheck we saved every penny to get Calypso something good and to visit her soon. We’re about to become seniors so now we finally have enough money. We’ve been able to email her, mail her, text her, call her, and finally get to see her. We never sent each other pictures of us and nor did she send us pictures of her so we’re really excited to see her. We were just about to go online to buy our plane tickets when Mrs. Iverson, Zack’s mom, called us downstairs.
“Get your butts down here boys!” yelled Mrs. Iverson. At the tone of her voice she sounded really happy so we all rushed downstairs.
“What’s up mom? Are you okay?” questioned Zack.
The look on his mom’s face was strange. She was grinning from ear to ear and rocking back and forth on the heels of her feet. She seemed overjoyed by something and was clutching the phone tightly and squealing happily.
“Mom are you okay? What happened?” Zack questioned worriedly.
“Guess who’s on the phone?!” she exclaimed happily, her grin growing wider.
“Who?”
“Calypso!” she squealed.
At the mention of her name we all rushed forward and made a grab for the phone. Zack was the first one to grab it and he pressed it closely to his ear. We all leaned in to try to listen but we couldn’t hear anything.
“Calypso!” yelled Zack happily.
A few seconds later a response came but we couldn’t hear it clearly. A look of shock crossed Zack’s face and the phone fell from his hand and clattered to the floor as he stood frozen in his place.
“What happened?!” exclaimed Chase.
“Is she okay?!” added Xander.
“What’s wrong?!” I finished.
No response came from Zack so I bent down quickly to get the phone.
“Calypso what’s wrong? Zack looks like he’s in shock!” I exclaimed into the phone.
“No I’m fine.” came her melodious voice as she chuckled into the phone.
“What’s wrong?” I asked worriedly.
“Guess who’s coming back to Alabama?” she asked with an accent in her voice.
“You! Are you serious?! Please tell me you’re serious!” I shouted, my grin reaching to my ears.
“I’m bloody serious, my mum got an even bigger job promotion back in Alabama so we’re living there again!” she chirped happily.
“What happened?!” yelled Chase.
“Calypso’s coming home to stay for good!” I shouted.
As soon as the words left my mouth Zack, Xander, and Chase started to dance happily around the kitchen. Even Mrs. Iverson started to join in.
“Wait, what house are you living in? All of us still live in the same place but your house from across the street already got sold.” I pointed out as my smile started to falter a bit.
Our houses used to be right next to each other while Calypso’s house was just across the street. My smile started to falter at the thought of all of us not living in the same neighborhood. But as soon as I asker her laugh came through the phone.
“Ok so me a favor first. Go to the side window on the righty side of Zack’s house where the view of Mr. and Mrs. Lopez house is.” she commanded.
“But-“
“Just do it and bring the guys with you.”
Once I replayed the message to the guys we all sprinted to the window.
“Ok, now look in there yard. I believe there’s sign that should be there.”
We all started searching when Xander finally spotted it and pointed it out. I look closer at what seemed to be a For Sale sign that I had not seen before. But what stood out the most was the SOLD sticker in bold on it.
“No way…” we all muttered in unison.
“That’s right boys, I’m coming home.” she replied dreamily.
