A/N: Sorry for the mistakes ahead of time.

“Rory it’s time to put the game away and eat your lunch,” Neveah shouted from the kitchen. Just as she was putting his grilled cheese sandwich on a plate, she saw Rory coming in the kitchen.

She woke up with a bright smile on her face. Her conversation with Phillip last night was still on her mind. She couldn’t believe that in such a short amount of time things changed for the better in her life. At one point she was a struggling mother trying to get money to raise her child.  Got kicked out of her apartment and Dawayne wouldn’t help her at all with Rory. Her life did a complete three hundred and sixty degree turn and she had Phillip to thank for that. He gave her a job, a roof of her head. He took care of Rory like he was his son.

Although everything was going great, Neveah knew she had to have something to call hers. The accounting job was given to her, the house and car was Phillip’s. Not even the clothes on her back was hers. Yeah, Phillip bought them for her but he bought them. Of course she was thankful for everything that Phillip was doing but shouldn’t a woman have her own independence and not rely on a man so much?

"Hey ma, thanks for lunch,” Rory said, breaking Neveah out of her thoughts. She put the food in front of rory at his place sitting on one of the bar stools at the counter.

"You're welcome Ror. Now that I pulled you away from that game what do you say you and I do something today,” Neveah suggested. “We can make it a mother-son day."

"Okay ma that's fine with me,” Rory nodded his head.

Neveah laughed. “Well don’t sound too enthusiastic about the idea,” she said sarcastically, sitting next to him on the stool. “You been playing that game all day. It’s time for you to go out for some fresh air.”

Rory bit into his sandwich and look up at his mom. “Can we go to the Brookfield Zoo? I reeaally want to see the Dolphins and the African Lion.”

Neveah got up from her stool and went to the sink to wash the dishes. “Sure, we can go,” she told him. “Go get your shoes and meet me at the door in ten minutes”

Taking the last bite of his grilled cheese, Rory ran over to his mother and hugged her from behind. It was going to be his first time that he ever went to the zoo and he couldn’t stop himself from being excited.

“Thanks ma!” Rory said, before running off to his room and getting his shoes.

Smiling, Neveah cleaned up the kitchen and went to put on her shoes. By the time she came back downstairs she saw Rory waiting on him in the living room with a game system in his hand. Grabbing her coach purse from the couch- compliments of Phillip- she shook her head.

“Where did you get that from?” She asked him. “I thought I said no more games for the rest of the day?”

Not looking up from the small screen Rory said, “Phillip gave it to me before he left and you didn’t say no more games for the rest of the day,” he retorted. “You said we should get some fresh air. Not saying I couldn’t take my 3DS.”
