I awoke when pure white light was shone into my eyes. It scorched my irises, leaving red splotches in its wake.
Once the blindness faded, I glanced around at my surroundings. Rey was directly in front of me, standing upright in some sort of harness. It held her upwards on a slant, locking her wrists and ankles in place. I wriggled for a moment, glanced down, and realized I was in the same restraints.
The rest of the room was a perfect square, with a length of LED lights running along its ceiling. There were no windows and only a single door that, even to my strained eyes, seemed thick and menacing.
"Rey," I whispered, my voice scratchy. I cleared my throat and tried again. "Rey!"
She startled, rocking forward and squinting as she opened her eyes against the harsh, unnatural light.
"Lora?" Rey glanced around, scoping out our holding cell. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine. I haven't seen anyone yet, but --"
As if on cue, the door opened with a shudder, and Kylo Ren entered. By his sides were two Knights of Ren, which I recognized by their matching cloaks. They each took a position beside Rey and me while Kylo moved to stand in the middle of the room, facing Rey.
"Welcome," he stated with a false courtesy in his tone. "I hope you are comfortable."
Rey spat at his feet.
"As feisty as I remember," murmured Kylo, while the Knights gave a low chuckle. "I am not here to play games now, girl."
"You aren't going to get away with this!" I cried, straining against my bonds.
Ren turned to me, and I could hear the smile in his voice. "And why not?"
"Luke hasn't heard back from us. He will be here before the day is out."
Ren held up a finger, stopping my words. "Unless he's already heard back from you."
I paused. "What?"
"You already sent him a transmission saying that you're both fine and that everything is going according to plan." My eyes widened as I realized what he's saying. Ren shook his head at me, saying, "It was simple. And I have no doubt that the Jedi fool will fall for it."
My jaw clenched in loathing, and I longed to scream my anger out at the hateful Knight.
"Now." Ren turned back to Rey, who struggled to look as menacing as she could in her current state. "I can feel the Dark side within you, Rey. Embrace it, feel its power."
Rey scowled, and I could see the raw hate in her features. "I will never join you." She paused a moment before adding, "Ben."
In a flash, Ren was within an inch of Rey's face, emanating pure rage. "Do not dare --" he stopped, taking a breath to compose himself before continuing, "do not dare call me that again."
Rey simply sat back with a satisfied smirk that couldn't be fully masked with fear.
Without warning, the door burst open, and a frightened looking man scampered inside, saying with haste, "Ren --"
The man immediately froze when Ren spun on him, towering over his small figure. "Can you not see I'm in the middle of something?"
"I -- uh --" He shook his head as if trying to clear it before speaking with more clarity. "We need your assistance with the traitor. He's been -- uncooperative."
