Galen lay on his bed in his room, replaying the events that had taken place a few hours ago. Since they had taken him at night, his aunt didn't know a thing about him not being in the house. He knew that a boring life was ahead of him. He would graduate, get a job and die of old age like all normal, average people out there.
To tell the truth, the thought of Reklaan and the adventures it could offer, excited him. But he knew that he couldn't just leave Emma. He got up and got ready for class.
I guess it's the boring life for me
***The whole week seem to fast forward until the day, Robb would come to ask about his decision, arrived. Galen had been acting dull the whole week and his aunt noticed this.
Galen was sitting in his room, listening to music, when his Aunt came in. She smiled at him and sat beside him.
She said," Galen, are you fine? This whole week, you have been acting all boring and sad."
" Its nothing Aunt Em, just been a rough week."
"You know, your dad always acted like this when he wanted something but knew he couldn't have it."
"Huh.."
His aunt however rambled on," You know, I was alone for a long time after your dad and mom died, that is of course until I found you."
She looked at him fondly before continuing," Your dad was like you though, he felt that he had a duty to make sure that I don't feel safe. But you know, I pretty old enough to take care of myself now. And I want you to know this. Whatever decision you take, as long as you do not regret it, I will support it."
Galen gaped at her with amazement as she got up, grinned at him and left his room.
How..What...she just indirectly told me that she knows about my visit to Reklaan. And she even told me that I could go there if I wish. I swear this past month as been crazy.
Finally, Galen could make his decision without any worries. He looked up at the clock.
He should be here any minute now.
As if on cue, a bright opening appeared right on top of Galen's bed. A serious looking guy appeared, he wore a T-shirt and blue jeans.
"WHOA, YOU NEARLY FELL ON ME" shouted Galen who had been taken by surprise.
Robb seem flustered," Oops, sorry. I am not really that good at controlling my Portals."
Galen grumbled something about sending someone else. However, Robb acted as if he didn't hear it and said," So are you coming or not?"
Galen looked at him for a moment before grinning," I am. After all, I haven't tried your food yet."
Robb laughed and said," Well believe me, the food is amazing. You won't be disappointed. Come lets hurry, the Empress can't be kept waiting."
Galen groaned when he heard that.
"I got to meet that mad lady now?!"
"She isn't mad, she's just a bit...err...short tempered. And don't let her hear you say that. She'll have your head cut off."
Galen gulped and nodded.
Robb gestured for him to follow as he concentrated for a bit. A huge bright portal appeared. Galen, on examining it again, saw that it actually shaped like a huge door but with rounded edges. He stepped through it after Robb. Surprisingly the light didn't blind him. He remembered from his first journey that the trip would take a few minutes. He asked Robb about it who said his would take a bit longer. When Galen asked him why, Robb said, "Quil users have different capabilities, abilities like portal making were more common but the time required to make the journey depended on the user."
Robb was among the slowest among everyone he had met earlier and Quinn was the fastest. Quinn made portals and travelled through it so fast that she could even use it battle to attack the enemy from any side. However Galen wondered why couldn't Robb use it as well, as the enemy still wouldn't be able to know which side he was coming from if he used a portal. However Robb said," One of the first things you will learn in Reklaan is aura sensory. Portals are after all made from our Quil and unfortunately even our enemy can sense aura. So if I were to use a portal in battle, my opponent would use that time to learn where I would attack from. On the other hand, Quinn's portals took so less time that the enemy wouldn't be able to sense it."
"I see, so if I could do it faster, even I could use it in battle?" Galen asked excitedly while images of him looking cool while attacking clueless Dajers using portals whistled through his mind.
However Robb just snorted and said," I doubt you could because, one; you need to be very close to Quinn's speed to use and there are very few who can do that, and two; it would take a few years to master such a thing. Quinn is until now the fastest to master it."
"Oh, I see.", Galen said dejectedly, the images in his mind whizzing out.
By now, they had reached their destination. They exited through the portal. Galen expected to see the tall trees again but this time they landed in very metallic looking hall. And they were not alone. Around them there lots of people and lots of announcements coming through the intercom. The place looked like futuristic garage of sorts. Many people were teleporting in and out. It was a very unreal experience.
" Whew, home sweet home."
Robb gestured at Galen to follow him out. As they reached the exit, a middle aged lady who sat in a booth halted them and asked for their IDs.
Robb smiled at her and presented his ID. She looked at it and then smiled.
She said," Oh my, I'm so sorry I didn't recognise you Jaùrus."
Robb just shook his head and said," Its not a problem"
With that, they told their goodbyes and went off.
Soon they reached the palace, though Galen and Robb did stop on the way for a bit of the street food. Galen had something called Tertar. A kind of chicken dish equivalent. It was much better than anything he had ever had in an Earth restaurant. He had loved it so much that he ordered a few more. However Robb stopped him because there was going to a feast in palace and it would be rude if Galen didn't eat enough food. Galen reluctantly left the stall but not before promising the stall owner that he would be back for more.
Inside the palace, all kinds of activities were going on. Galen figured it must be in preparation for the feast. Robb led him through the main hallway and into corridor which was deserted except for the guards. As they walked pass them, the guards greeted Robb cheerfully and Robb returned the gesture. Soon they reached a normal looking door. On entering, Galen found himself in a normal sized room, at least for a palace. This room was the size of a two bedroom flat aleast.
In front of him, sat a person who Galen was not looking forward to see.
"I see you have arrived." The Empress said with that arrogant I-knew-you-would-come look.
I really shouldn't have come
