"He just left!" I let Nancy know of the incident. I take a sip from my water. Nancy just stares at me. She doesn't seem to care. I do.
"Dude, just relax! It's okay. Go talk to him now. Stop overthinking!" Nancy looks so done with me. I feel bad.
"You're right. I'm overthinking. I'm sorry." Nancy just smiles. Her gaze drifts away from me, and her smile turns into a thin line. Her eyes become bigger as she swallows hard. "What is it?" I ask. She just stares with her mouth open. "What?" I ask again scared to turn around.
"I-it's Rachelle. She's here." Nancy's eyes fall to the ground. I smile.
"Go talk to her." I say standing up from the chair I have been sitting on. I pull her hands up pulling her to stand up. "I go talk to Jace, you go talk to your girl." Nancy drinks the remaining of her drink in one gulp before beginning to walk in Rachelle's direction. I smile to myself proudly.
I look around searching for Jace. I start walking. I move into the house. Nothing. I come back outside. I see no Jace. Letting out a frustrated sigh I walk back to the chair I have been sitting on the whole time. As I move by the side of the pool I hear my name being called. I turn around. Jace is in the pool looking up at me. His eyes are shining bright. His smile irresistible.
"You know, a simple hello never harmed anyone." Jace says with an attitude. My phone hangs open as I try to think of a come back. My brain is blank. I just turn around with the intention of just leaving. In a matter of seconds Jace pulls himself out of the pool and is now standing behind me with a hand on my shoulder. "I'm kidding." He lets out. I turn around to look at him. The thought of kissing him comes running in my mind. Shaking the thought away I smirk at the boy in front of me before pushing him in the pool waters with a loud splash. I burst out laughing. The laughing doesn't stop until I feel two strong hands grabbing my arms and pulling me in the pool as I let out a light scream. Forcing my head upwards at the surface I see Jace laughing. I throw some water at him and laugh.
"So, how's life?" Jace asks. I smile.
"Life's awesome! How's yours?"
"Better than ever."
"I'm glad."
"Need a drink?" Jace asks. I take some seconds to think about my answer. "I'll get you some." Jace simply says before jumping out of the pool towards the inside of the house. I swim to the edge of the pool touching the edge with my arms. I let my back touch it letting my head fall back. I close my eyes trying to relax while listening to my favorite song. One minute later I feel a presence next to me. I open my eyes and see Jace holding two plastic cups. He gives me the one on the right. I thank him before taking a sip from my drink.
"I forgot you are a good person and didn't even search for a glass to put your drink in." Jace says with a serious tone. I just smile.
"It's okay." I simple say.
"Remember when I used to like this girl, Marisa, and I asked you what song I should dedicate to her and you introduced me to this song?" I nod while Jace is talking remembering that day.
"And you told me how perfect it is but you never dedicated it to her." I laugh remembering the moment.
"Yeah, because it seemed special. I didn't want to dedicate the song to a middle school crush which I knew wasn't going to last." Jace defends himself.
"Fair enough."
"I think I'm ready to dedicate it now though." Jace lets out. I give him a look.
"Woah! To that girl you told me about the other day?" I ask before taking another sip from my drink.
"Yup." Jace blushes. I smile.
"Tell me about her."
"What do you wanna know?" Jace asks moving his back on the edge next to me. I turn to face him.
"Everything." I make my voice deep when saying that winning an adorable laugh from the boy in front of me.
"Alright. She is kind, smart and so pretty. She loves everyone and everything and I just hate how polite she is with every single person she meets." Jace is looking straight ahead but makes eye contact every now and then. It's one of the rare times I see Jace being so happy and excited about something. It looks good on him. "And her eyes, damn, I could stare at them forever and never get bored. She's a star." Jace is now looking at me smiling. He's blushing.
"That's so cute! Do you have a picture of her?" I ask. Jace's face falls.
"Yes but I don't have my phone right now so tough luck."
"Come on! I wanna see her."
"Why does it matter how she looks like? Isn't she beautiful enough by my description?" Jace asks. He looks a little frustrated. He takes a sip from his own drink before I start to speak.
"Describe her to me, then." Jace moves away from the edge and is now standing in front of me looking straight into my eyes.
"She looks just like you, just-" pause "prettier" jace raises his shoulder in a swift motion. I just stare at him. He smirks.
"Oh well, every girl is prettier than me so-"
"I'm kidding, what the hell." Jace says, his attitude suddenly strict and serious. "You're beautiful." I stare into Jace eyes and see the truth behind his words. He means every word he just said. But my anxiety thinks otherwise.
"You're just saying that to make me feel better." I simply say before taking a long sip from my drink feeling suddenly nauseous.
"No. Actually, you're the most beautiful girl in this house." Jace smiles.
"K"
"Did you just 'K' me? Like in real life?"
"Ah yeah." Seconds later I feel a wave of water slapping my face, almost drowning me. I throw water back to Jace and that's when a war starts. And guess what.
I fucking won.
