Walking out of the lecture with my backpack over my shoulders, I see Nancy standing a few feet away from me. She is wearing sweatpants and a NASA hoodie, with trainers. Her hair is in a ponytail and her green eyes are behind large round glasses. She is talking to a girl who isn't Mel. I've known Mel enough to recognise even her back.

Nancy looks at me and smiles. I smile back walking closer to her. The other girl leaves and I take her place opposite Nancy. Her eyes are a little red. She is a beautiful woman, so different and so laid back. Thoughts of me dating her can't come in my mind as I just cannot even imagine myself dating Nancy. I don't know why but I can't. I can imagine myself dating Mel, tho. But let's stay quiet shall we?

"What's up?" Nancy speaks.

"What's up with you?" I say. She stares at me confused. "You've been acting weird lately. Is Mel pushing you away because of Jack?"

"What the- no! Jesus Christ." Nancy exhales staring at her feet. My eyes never left her green ones. "It's just. I can't talk about it right now, right here." The girl takes a look at me. Her eyes are crying for me to understand and drop the topic.

"Okay." I say. "Come to my dorm after class if you wanna talk about it." Nancy remains silent but nods. "Please do." I walk away.

"I am here just because Mel is your friend too and you might be able to help me." Nancy walks through the door into my room. She sits straight on the bed before I can even close the door. I go and sit on my desk chair a few meters away from her. She is playing with her hair.

"I am listening." I speak. She is wearing the same outfit as she wore at uni. The only difference is her face; it looks fresh.

"I know Mel is not okay. She is hurting constantly by that jackass and whatever I tell her that something is wrong, she just ignores me. I think she is falling into depression." Nancy talks slowly. At the last word, she makes eye contact with me. I stay silent trying to let all the words she said fall into place in my brain.

"I am trying to help her. I really am. But she doesn't listen to anyone." I sigh and look down at my feet. Memories from when me and Mel were younger come running into my mind. Mel is smiling. I am smiling. We are playing at the park. We are happy. So happy. I miss that. I miss her.

"And it's not just that that makes me feel like crap." The girl in front of me lets out the longest, heaviest sigh making me even more concerned. "I know that Mel has a lot in her mind and I don't want to make things worse, but I feel like you can actually help me." My palms are starting to sweat as every second passes by. "I am gay." Nancy's eyes are big, like she didn't expect herself to say that. Then she miles shyly. She is proud. I smile at her.

"Okay."

"How can I tell Mel?" Her eyes begin to fill with tears as they stare at her lap. As I open my mouth to answer her question, there is a knock on the door. I stand up and open it. It's Mel.

"Time for out study sesh!" She smiles forming wrinkles around her eyes. I can't help but smile back. She is wearing a baby pink sweater with black sweatpants and converse. Her brown eyes are trapped behind her round silver glasses. She takes a glimpse inside the room and her eyes land on Nancy. She walks in the moment Nancy stands up.

"I gotta go now." Nancy says and leaves the room without a second word. Mel stays speechless.

"You wanna tell me something?"

"No."

"I don't get it, man. Why do girls always fall for the man who's wrong for them?"

"Women are a mystery, bro." Nate exhales.

"Like, I can actually see her hurting! At the study session today, her eyes were red from crying, dude." She is hurting and I can't do anything about it. And let me tell you, that breaks my heart into a thousand pieces.

"Maybe it was from studying so much?"

"No, I can distinguish between those two."

"What can you do?" Nate says giving up on paying attention on anything else I say.

"Nothing."

"Exactly, so-"

"Actually I can make her forget him. I can make her stop wanting him." I stand up from excitement as the best thought comes into my brain in a hurricane.

"And how are you going to do that?" Nate asks before looking back at his phone's bright screen.

"I'm gonna make her fall in love with me."
