I feel as though every bone in my chest has been broken. But, I can still move my arms. I reach into my pouch and quickly pull out a vial of Miracle. No time to inject myself, I open the vial and swallow the foul tasting liquid. The reason that Miracle is injected is because it is painful. As soon as it touches my mouth I feel as though I'm trying to swallow acid. As it ruches down my throat I can barely breathe. After the pain I feel the bones in my chest knit together. I stand up and see that the creature is laughing and Meera is still trying to free Amy. As I stand the creature stops laughing and begins walking towards me. I draw my sword and stand my ground. I look over at Meera again and I see the rucksack containing the ionic collider next to her. My crossbow is on the ground by a wall. I glance back just in time to see a massive sword swinging towards me. I duck and it swings high. He sweeps the sword back and I bring up my own in defence. The swords collide and I'm knocked back. I hear the woman on the catwalk laughing, but I'm in no position to do anything about her. Our swords collide again, but this time I manage to stand my ground. He drags the sword along the ground and I jump to avoid it. For a massive creature made out of stone, it sure is agile. We both swing and the swords collide. They stay against each other for a few moments until I bring my sword down and bury the creature’s sword into the floor. I try to follow up but a massive stone fist swings at me and I roll to avoid it. By the time I stand back up the creature has gotten his sword out of the floor. His eyes have gone red; I think he might be mad. With a roar he charges at me, I dodge and he runs past me. The creature is becoming careless. I spot my crossbow a few metres away. The creature is facing the other way. I capitalize and run towards my crossbow. Out of the corner of my eye I see an object fly towards me. I drop to my knees and slide the rest of the way. Something flies over my head and embeds itself in the wall above me. I stand with my crossbow and look at the massive sword still quivering in the wall. The creature is nearly upon me. As it charges towards its sword, I duck and slice with my sword. A chunk of stone comes off its leg and it stumbles and falls to one knee. I see blood, bone and flesh mixed in with the rock. The small amount of pride I got from that victory soon vanishes as I watch the rock, grow and cover over the wound. It stands up and I fire four bolts at its throat. They all hit and stick. The creature doesn’t seem affected by the bolts; it just reaches up and pulls them out. I get a brilliant idea.
I drop the drum currently in the crossbow and replace it with the red drum. I have my suspicions about it, but now is the time to put it to the test. I fire at the creature again and again, the bolts stick. As anticipated the creature removes the bolts and this time chortles. Its laughter is cut short as the bolts that it’s holding explode and shatter its hand. It screams out in pain and fire three bolts at the creature’s throat. They explode before it can remove them. The outer layer of stone is destroyed and I see flesh underneath. Before I can fire again, the creature throws the sword, which it has managed to remove from the wall, again. I roll out the way. But before I can raise my crossbow, there’s as thump to my left and the creatures’ throat erupts in an explosion of flesh, blood and bone. It falls to its knees and then face plants on the ground. The woman on the catwalk sounds content.
“No matter, we have more. We will win in the end.” She laughs.
“Enough of your shit.” Meera aims a pistol at her and fires.
The woman disappears then reappears a few metres away.
“That's not fair play Meera.” Meera shoots again and the woman does the same.
“When did you perfect the blinker?” I ask the woman.
“Not your concern at the moment,” the woman laughs again, “well I should be off.” She pulls out a teleporter like the one I'm carrying and presses the button.
“Mom.” Amy exclaims.
“Amy.” Meera is close to tears.
“Not to spoil the moment but, we should be heading off now.” I remind Meera.
“Right, come on Amy, let’s go.” They walk towards the doorway we came in through.
I don't follow them; instead I head towards the rucksack and open it. There is a large Orb sitting resting on a large control panel. I press a few buttons and soon the Orb starts spinning. I run after Meera and Amy. When they see me they begin running as well. I can see the second teleporter in Amy’s hand. I catch up to them as they reach the exit.
“Run faster.” I gasp.
“Cant we just teleport here?” Meera asks.
“No, there’s an electromagnetic shield over the base. It won’t allow our teleporters to work.” I explain.
We continue running until we reach the gate of the compound. As we rush through Meera looks at me and I nod. She tells Amy something and they both press their teleporters. I take one last look at the base, pull out my teleporter and press the button.
Back in the teleporter room, Meera and Amy are hugging. The director is standing by one of the screens and he motions for us to join him.
“We got a satellite over the Infersia camp.” I look at the screen and see the place I just left.
I know why he has got this on screen. If I can remember correctly, the timer should be at five, four, three, two, and one. There is a small flash, then suddenly, from the heart of the base, a massive blue dome is spreading out. The light it gives off is almost unbearable. Everything that the blueness touches gets disintegrated. I spot the point I was moments ago and watch as it too, like the rest of the base, is destroyed. Everyone in the room is watching with awe. Not many people have seen an ionic collider go off before. The explosion ends and all we’re looking at now is a crater.
“Rory, report to my office sometime today. I want to know what happened.” The director says as he walks off.
Meera and Amy soon follow him. I leave the room a few minutes after everyone else. I walk back to my room, still fully armed. As I lay on my bed I think back to the woman. She knew my name, no one knows my name. I feel edgy. Like something isn’t right. Some weird shit is going on, and I don't like it.
Standing in the director’s office, telling him about everything that happened in the camp. He listens to everything I say, doesn’t interrupt or ask questions. I reach the bit about the stone creature and he listens with anticipation. I tell him that we killed it and about the strange woman. He looks at his desk and tells me I can leave.
“Sir there is one thing I want to tell you.” He looks back up.
“What is it Rory?”
“The woman, she knew my name, my full name.” He looks surprised.
“Rory, even I don't know your full name.” He is shocked.
“I know, that's worrying me. She shouldn’t know my name. Also who is she?” I ask him; because I have the feeling he knows the answer.
“Her name is Leah Jilk. She is one of the bosses of Infersia. She has been trying to destroy us ever since we were founded. She despises us because she thinks that the human race should have the power to live forever, and she wants to be able to control that power. She is crazy and power hungry. She is also the one sending in all the spies and turning Agents into traitors.” He explains.
“Why haven’t we killed her yet?” I ask bluntly.
“Oh, we’ve tried. She is untraceable. Whenever we find her though, the Agents we send after her end up dead.” I listen to everything he says. “The reason she is so hard to find and so deadly is because she used to be one of the best Agents of Death.” He gives me a look that says it is time for me to leave.
“Oh sir, before I go, I just remembered. They have perfected the blinker, this woman, Leah, was using it. It works fine.” He nods and I leave his office.
I'm back in my room, sitting on a chair. I have propped the crossbow against the wall with the red drum still loaded in and the two spare drums lying next to it. My sword is displayed on my wall, on a rack I have. The sword is made of diamond. Which is why is withstood the creatures blows. Any other material would have been destroyed and I would have most likely died. I stand up and walk over to my bed. I remove the daggers from the sheaths on my legs and I lie down. I think about tomorrow and how I have more newbie training. At first I think that I won’t be able to fall to sleep after all that has happened today but, after five minutes I feel my eyelids go heavy and droop. I soon fall into a deep sleep.
