"Light 'em up!"
As the bonfire burst into flames, everyone yelled and cheered as the party seemed to come to life. Some boys started pounding on homemade drums while another started to do flips around the fire. Ever since I first arrived, bonfires have been my favorite tradition. The way everyone seemed to just let go for once and truly have fun. It made me so happy to see all my boys feel real release after the stressful month they had and forget about where we really are and the duties we have to take on tomorrow. For tonight they get to truly be teenagers. I sat on a log next to Minho, taking in the scene with a soft smile on my face. Gally soon walked over with a couple mason jars full of his 'special recipe'.
"Mick, Minho, Ben, here are your drinks."
The boys all murmured a thank you as I sent him a bright grin before taking the jar. I took a sip, grimacing as I did so. Gally laughed at the face I was making as he pat my back.
"All this time Mick, and you still can't take it? And here I was thinking you were at least somewhat of a badass."
"Oh shuck off, Gal. Not my fault you make rancid alcohol. Don't you have some shanks to beat up?"
He laughed at me again before getting up to most likely follow my advice and start one of his infamous fights. I kept surveying the scene before feeling a pair of eyes on me. I glanced over at the edge of the party, making eye contact with the Greenie, again. He was sitting facing away from everyone with Newt by his side. I quickly shifted my gaze to Newt seeing him waving me over. I stood up to go join them, weaving my way around the dancing boys.
"Ah, Mickey! I was just explaining to this shank what it is exactly you do. Greenie, meet my favorite runner, Mickey. Don't tell Minho I said that."
"Newt, I am definitely going to use that in an argument with Minho in the future, thank you." I said, laughing. "But, I met him earlier today while talking to Chucky. Nice to see you again." I directed the last comment at the Greenie.
He looked up at me muttering a small 'hey' back. I could tell that they had been having a serious talk before I arrived, most likely about the Maze. It was the one thing that scared every Greenie out of their wits. I still remember how Chuck klunked his pants when we told him.
Newt looked between us before saying, "Right, well, that's enough questions for one night, Greenie. You're supposed to be the guest of honor!"
He quickly started to protest before Newt was hauling him to his feet. He sent me a look that screamed 'help me!' but I just giggled and followed them as they moved around the party.
