Wails from Sophia came through the T.V. the funny thing about it was it was all live so she was screaming her butt off this very second. Sophia had just plead guilty, charged with 2nd degree murder, and sentenced to twenty years in prison. Not jail. Prison. That could have been me. I thought. After all I was the one that did it. Not Sophia. Oh well. Better her than me. "Let's hope that brat learns her lesson," Mother said while laughing. "I don't even see why they bothered having a court case when she was found in the bus when Maddie was hit. It makes no sense. Everybody knew she was going to lose anyway." Mother added. "Well, maybe she was set up. It happens all the time in the crime movies Father and I always used to watch." I said. Hopefully I didn't sound nervous. Mother gave me a skeptical look, like she knew something. "That could be the case. But why would she be in the bus in the first place? If that girl was stupid enough to get into the bus for the most planned out frame, then she is stupid enough to kill her best friend. Guilty as charged." Mother gave me one last skeptical look. "We have the Maddie Wenkle Foundation party tonight. Lane, are you coming?" Mother asked while washing the popcorn bowl. "I wouldn't miss it. Is it black dress black tie?" "I think so..." Mother said.
We were greeted by two handsome guys in my grade at the door of the ball room where the MWF (Maddie Wenkle Foundation) party was being held. "Welcome, enjoy your night lovely ladies." They said as they opened the door. "Do I look okay?" Mother basically shouted to me. Her black sweetheart gown looked great. Unlike me I was just wearing a black cocktail dress with my hair pulled into a high messy bun. "Yeah! You look great!" I shouted back. "And me?!" "Better than me probably!" "Laugh out loud! NO!!!" Mother and I started dancing. And drinking. And more dancing. Nobody seemed to notice all the underage drinkers here tonight...oh well.
It was nearing midnight and nobody seemed to close up the party. People were knocked out cold over by the drinks and nobody seemed to notice. Mother and I were sitting down at a nearby table. I was getting a little tipsy. Uh oh. "Ready to head out?" Mother asked. "Are you okay to drive?" "I'll have a shofar drive us home. Just don't let them know you were drinking." Mother winked and got up to hire a shofar. Tonight was a fun night. I shouldn't be here though. Sophia should.
