I woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring. I glared at it, wondering why in the world I had decided to get up so early. Then I looked at my wrist, as was my habit first thing in the morning. 08h 10mm 7s. 8 hours, 10 minutes, and 7 seconds until I would finally meet my soulmate. I jumped out of bed, and hurried to get dressed. I wanted to look good when I met him. I pulled on my favorite green dress and curled my short, honey-colored hair. I was ready.

And of course I still had a whole hour before I needed to leave for school. I pulled out my phone and decided to call my best friend, Owen.

"Hey Liv, what's up?" He asked.
Owen and I were next door neighbors. As such, we'd spent a lot of time together over the years.
"I'm out my mind with excitement, that's what!" I replied.
"Oh right, your countdown ends today right?"
"Yes, that's right. I'm going crazy over here just thinking about it."
"Want to come over? My mom made pancakes."
"Sounds perfect" I replied.

I ate breakfast at Owens' almost every day. Since my mom and I weren't any good at cooking, and dad left for work super early, it was always easier to go next door and enjoy the amazing meals Owen's mom, Ms Emily, made.

"Good morning sweetheart! I hear today's the big day!" Ms Emily said.
"That's right! I can't wait!" I answered. I was over here so often, it Ms Emily felt like my second mom.
"Oh, I remember when I first met Owens father." She said. "It was raining that day, and I worried that I wouldn't be able to see him! But I found him, waiting for me at the bus stop. And he had brought me flowers! It was so clear that he was the one." She sighed.
Her husband had died in a car crash three years ago. Ms Emily always put on a brave face, but every once in a while her eyes would glaze over and you'd know that she was remembering him.
"He would've loved to be here. Especially since Owen's countdown ends in just a few weeks now." Ms Emily said.
At that moment, Owen came running down the stairs. "Morning Mom! Hey Liv!" He turned to me with a grin on his face. "You excited?"
"Do you even need to ask?" I sighed. "I just want this school day to be over already."
"No worries he'll be there." Owen gave me a quick hug. "And I'll be with you every step of the way."
