After classes Owen and I headed home.
"Olivia!" Isaac called, "wait up!"
"Is that him?" Owen asked.
"Yes," I replied, "that's Isaac."
Isaac then caught up with us. He slung his arm around my shoulders, slightly out of breath. "Hey. You took off so fast I'd worried you'd gone already. Can I walk you home?"
"Yeah, of course you can walk with us," I smiled at him. "This is my best friend, Owen."
"Hey" Owen said, nodding at Isaac.
"Hello," Isaac said, and reached out to shake Owen's hand. "I'm Isaac, Olivia's soulmate."
"I see you don't have the same aversion to the word that she does."
Isaac laughed, "no, not at all. It's true, isn't it? So why not say it?"
Owen smiled. "I guess you're right."
We walked home along the usual path, past the park. Soon we had reached my home. Owen pulled me into a quick hug before heading into his house. Isaac walked me to my door, and we stood together on the doorstep.
"Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow?" Isaac said.
"Actually, why don't you come in?" I inquired. "I'm sure my mom wants to meet you."
He paused for a moment, suddenly nervous. "Yeah, I guess we can do that." He looked away, running a hand through his hair.
"If you feel uncomfortable, we can wait." I smiled at him.
"Oh thank goodness." He sighed in relief. "Maybe Friday? I think I'd like to know you better before I meet your parents." He looked down into my eyes. "I do want to meet them you know."
"I know." I grinned. "It wasn't fair of me to ask. I guess I'd be pretty nervous too if you asked me to meet your parents immediately."
He brushed my hair away from my face before pulling me into a warm hug. "Friday then? He whispered. "Maybe your parents could come over for dinner. Get it all over with at once."
His warm breath tickled my ear. I shivered, and he pulled me closer. "Sounds perfect."
I pulled away and got my keys out.
"Actually" he said, "do you want to go on a walk in the park?"
I turned to face him and sighed. "I can't tonight. Too much homework. Besides, I didn't get to see my mom last night. She's probably dying to ask me about you."
"Yeah, I guess you're right." He turned to go. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"See you." I smiled, and turned to unlock my door as he walked away.
"Maybe you can help me with homework tomorrow." He called, from halfway down the driveway, "I've got a lot to catch up on."
"I'd like that." I called back.
I shook my head and went inside. Shutting the door behind me, I dumped my stuff on the kitchen table and sat down. I always liked to do my homework there, so I could easily ask mom for help if I needed. And it made it easier to concentrate if I wasn't in my room. I'd be too tempted to take a nap.
"Olivia, you're home!" My mom called.
My mom was beautiful. She was around my height, with the same honey colored hair and warm brown eyes. People sometimes asked if we were sisters when we went out in public, but personally I've never seen it. Her good humor and grace made her seem beautiful and mature in ways I could never be.
"You never talked to me yesterday, what's he like?"
I blushed bright red, and she laughed. "That cute huh?" I could feel the blush spreading, and I looked down.
"Yes mom, he's cute."
"Is he nice? When can I meet him? Can I meet his parents too? I bet your dad can't wait to meet his father. Maybe they can go fishing together and then I won't have to go!" She exclaimed enthusiastically.
I laughed. "Mom, calm down! We were thinking we could all have dinner together on Friday?"
"Oh, that's perfect!" She smiled, "I can't wait to meet him. I can see you like him already."
I smiled softly, "I do. He's a great guy, you'll love him."
"Do you?" She asked gently.
I frowned. "Do I what?"
"Love him? Or love him yet, I guess?" She asked.
"I don't know yet." I replied. And I didn't. I definitely felt a connection, and I was definitely attracted to him, but can you really proclaim that love after only one day? I didn't know. "But I can definitely feel that the potential is there." I smiled. "He's absolutely perfect."
Mom chuckled. "I felt the same way when I met your father." She put a soft hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry, you'll get there."
I pictured Isaac smiling at me, his dark hair pushed away from his bright, green eyes. I could see my future with him, and it was amazing. I'd never felt this way before. "I know."
