"Mom, I'm going out!"

"Honey, you've been here for one day, who could you possibly know?"

"Its a neighbor, Mom!" I yelled, already out the door to avoid further questions.

I heard her talking still as I crossed the street to get to the huge mansion gates to Lindsay's house.

I got there and was immediately confusion in my brain. There was no handle. I felt around the stone surrounding the gates and found a doorbell like button. I pressed it and a camera and screen appeared out of nowhere, causing me to fall backwards onto the wide sidewalk.

On the screen was a cold eye and parts of a cool and old woman's face. It reminded me of E from the Incredibles.

"Who are you? What do you want? No visitors. Ever. Why are you on the ground? Idiot."

I scratched my head and stood up, brushing some sand off of me.

"I'm a friend of Lindsay's. She invited me over. And I like the ground. Is that a problem?"

She cursed around her breath and moved so it wasn't her eye up close on the screen.

"I'm Helga, James's mother."

I figured James was her cousin's husband and so I didn't ask any questions.

"Go get Lindsay."

"Don't tell me what to do, young man!"

I heard Lindsay's voice in the background asking if I was here.

Helga answered back that it was just a delivery man and that I wasn't going to show up.

So, being the stubborn kid I am, starting singing random songs at the top of my lungs.

I was extremely loud and obnoxious, but I still heard Lindsay yell, "Why is the delivery man singing Taylor Swift?!?!" I continued to sing and starting dancing around the sidewalk. Lindsay walked over to the camera and, pressing her sparkling sea colored eye to the camera, starting laughing. I guess she pressed a button too because the gate opened and I danced through, still singing "Fearless."

There was a small pathway to the large doors. I continued to dance in the front yard and Lindsay opened the door and joined me.

Once the song had ended we both laughed and entered the house. Steering clear of Helga the Terrible, Lindsay led me up to her room. It was blue and had wood paneling. Not to mention the size. It was magnificent. Probably the size of my whole upstairs at my old house.

"So how long can you stay?" Lindsay was rummaging through a basket of tv items.

"I don't know. Nobody would have noticed I was gone if I hadn't told my mom. Its just me. In a room sunk down in a house in a town. I'll text her."

"I bet thats not true." She was standing now, looking at me.

"Well, it is."

She stood, her normal smile absent, looking at me.

There was a moment where our eyes met. It was weird and I felt like I was floating on a cloud. Her face had gone all shocked and she was trying to smile. I smiled nervously at her. Knowing it was awkward, I quickly changed the subject.

"So who's this hanging on your wall?"

Our eyes had met for just a few quick seconds but it was one of those time froze moments.

"Oh, thats Gale from the Hunger Games," she said as she went back to her rummaging.

"Well, why is he on your wall?"

She shrugged and smiled mischievously. "I couldn't find a cheap cardboard cutout."

I laughed. "That makes sense."

My phone buzzed.

Lindsay looked up from her rummaging. "What'd she say?"

"Umm...some choice words I don't wish to repeat in front of someone I've known for a day..."

She started walking towards me. "I feel like I've known you forever though."

"Yeah..."

She finally reached me and looked over at my phone, reading allowed. "Your bother is having some friends over tonight and he doesn't want you here so make sure you keep your...oh, thats lovely."

I nodded. "Told ya."

"She'll get better."

"She hasn't for the past 15 years."

She smiled sadly at me and went back to her basket. "This stupid remote is gonna be the death of me...so whats your brother like?"

"Mum's favorite. That pretty much explains everything."

"I'm sure he loves you."

"Oh, I know he does. He just doesn't realize he's treated like a king."

She shrugged. "I'm glad I'm the only kid here...so how long will his friends be over?"

"Probably forever. He drinks."

"Oh...so its like a party?"

"Yup."

"So if you can't be there over night...where the hell are you going to stay?"

"In my front yard. I've done it before and now the grass is greener!" I said sarcastically.

She made an 'oh really?' face than sighed. "Thats not very good..." With that, her face lit up. "Hey, you could stay here!"

I smiled, but really I was happier on the inside than my face showed.

"I'd love to! Do you have a spare room?"

"Umm...I think so."

"Great! I'll go tell my BFF."

She looked confused. "What?"

I grinned. "Helga needs to know!"

I ran out in the hall and started down the stairs. I glanced back at her room, and I was glad I did.

She was busy doing the 'alright!' dance.
