the streets of daegu, jimin soon finds out, are a lot like yoongi himself. cold and mildly vacant, a little off putting at first, but very cozy and beautiful. full of life. "where to, my darling?" yoongi asks as they walk down some roads. jimin lets out a small laugh, followed by a light shrug, "its your home town." is all that he says, ultimately leaving all decisions regarding daegu to yoongi. yoongi nods thoughtfully, a strange sense of home washing over him, and he didnt know whether it was because of daegu, or jimin.
as they walked, they could feel a couple stares lingering on them. it was probably because of the fact that they were two men, holding hands, and thats not exactly a completely normal thing in korea. they both ignore it, but yoongi can tell jimin is nervous because hes doing that habit of his he does whenever hes put in situations like this. he strengthens his grip on yoongis hand and nervously runs his thumb along the side of yoongis palm and yoongis not going to lie when he says that he kind of loves it when he does that because it makes him feel like jimin needs him. in more ways than just to prevent him from punching himself in his sleep.
though he was actually quite happy to be back, yoongi couldnt shake the feeling of emptiness as they walked along. just as yoongi was breaking out of his thoughts, he ran straight into someone. jimin had tried to grab his arm and pull him out of the way, but it was already too late. "ah, my apologies, i wasnt thinking." yoongi apologized quickly, finally looking at the boy in front of him. the moment they locked eyes, yoongi knew exactly who this boy was.
he looked just as he remembered him, only obviously taller and older since the last time he saw him. yoongi continued to stare at the boy, only making him more confused. he was much too young at the time to remember yoongi just by looks. "joonhyun?" yoongis words came out breathy and unsteady, his eyes frantic. the boy tilted his head slightly, obviously unable to tell who yoongi was. yoongi looked away briefly, coughing rather awkwardly. this gesture somehow flipped a switch in joonhyun. "yoongi?" (a/n traditionally, korean siblings will often have the same first syllables in their name but it was very difficult to do that with yoongis name so i somehow came up with joonhyun just go with it)
"hyung." joonhyun said suddenly, even before yoongi had gotten a chance to answer him. his younger brother pulled yoongi in for a tight hug, one that yoongi hoped would help apologize for the many years lost between them. yoongi looked at his younger brother, saw how his jaw was stronger and his height taller, how his eyes were wider and more bright than before and his hair still a messy pile on top of his head just like it had always been. a heavy feeling of guilt settled in the bottom of his stomach.
then, he noticed joonhyun was currently sporting a high school uniform. "yah, get your ass to school!" yoongi playfully scolded him when he realized he had stopped him on his way there, and for a moment it felt like old times. joonhyun laughed thoughtfully at his brother, hesitating slightly before going. as if reading his thoughts, yoongi said, "dont worry, kid. i've always found a way to find you, right?" at that, joonhyun nodded contently, and turned on his heal.
yoongi turned back to his boyfriend, who looked utterly confused and touched at the same time. he didnt ask any questions, though. he understood without yoongi even having to explain. then, they continued on their way, hand in hand, each just taking it all in. and that night, when jimin woke them both up in a fit of thrashing, yoongi knew that having jimin was completely worth the occasional punch to his gut.
