"You can do this Jack."
Mark and Jack were sat in the back of a taxi, Jack had his eyes closed, looking in pain.
"I can't Mark. It-"
"Are ye tew gettin' oot' or what! I've goat' otter' places to be ye know!"
The taxi driver interrupted him, cutting their convocation short. They both got out the car and the driver speed away. Jack stood and looked at the pretty little farm house.
"So this is where you lived huh"
"Yeah used too I guess."
Jack took Mark's hand. And pointed in the hay field at a bunch of hay bales stacked in the corner.
"Over there is where dad used to put all the hay we used for our horses. Me and Stéphen used to play hide and go seek."
"Stéphen is your older brother isn't he?"
"Mhmm."
"Shall we go inside?"
"I don't know Mark..."
Mark pulled Jack into a hug, but about a second later Jack looked at the door. He heard someone call.
"Seán! Is that actually you!?"
Jack looked shocked.
"Stéphen!?"
"How's my little bro!?"
Jack pulled away from Marks hug and ran to his older brother and jumped in his arms.
"I thought you were with your friend!?"
Stéphen appeared to be sad.
"He got killed on the line of duty protecting me... I've moved back here now. His wife took it pretty hard."
"Oh... Was she upset?"
"She looked it, but she didn't say anything. She just ignored me."
"Sorry man.."
"Hey! Yer don't need to be upset about it. It's time to be happy I finally get to see yer after forever, shall we go in?"
"I don't know Stéphen, it's been a while since I've seen everyone."
"Did yer go to Dublin or something?"
"California."
"Dude!"
Stéphen punched Jack's shoulder playfully but a bit too hard, causing Mark to step in.
"Careful. Don't hit him so hard. You could hurt him."
"Wow yeur defiantly from Cali ain't yer?"
Mark stretched out his long, muscular arm.
"I'm Mark Fischbach. J- Seán's boyfriend."
Stéphen stood and shook Mark's hand.
"Stéphen McLoughlin, Seán's brother... Come on then. Let's go inside. Sophie won't stop banging her gums about you Mark."
Mark shrugged and held Jacks hand as they walked inside. Jack tensed. The whole family was here and they all stopped and stared at Jack and Mark. He whispered to him:
"Jack I thought you said your family might be here, not the whole Ireland!"
Jack laughed at the pun and the joke itself, but soon stopped when a skinny, blond haired girl stood. She wore lots of makeup and had that 'I am what's most important in the room' vibe about her. He sighed.
"Mark this is Sophie... Sophie this is Mark"
"Ay. The replacement for Simon is it?"
Sophie looked Mark up an down.
"Shut up Sophie, ye don't have to make this worse."
"Ye was the one who showed up"
"Ye requested me here for Moms funeral."
"She'd be better off without ye, all ye ever did was run from everyone."
The awkwardness in the room was as obvious as Lady Ga Ga in a shoe store.
"Why do ye think I left this place."
"Sophie stop it. This is hard enough for Seán as it is."
Mark took Jack into a hug.
"Ye don't get a say 'Mark' because your not even part of this family."
Sophie retorted.
"Ye know what I'm done. Mark we'll stay in Dublin for the rest of the holiday so ye get to see Ireland."
"No Seán. Stay, for yar muther' "
Jack rolled his eyes hearing his Uncle Paul speak, he liked him but now isn't a good time.
"Fine. But Mark listen."
"That brat there is Sophie, my brother is Stéphen, that's uncle Mike, Aunty Lou and the couisns: Jeffrey, Billy, Samwise and Marchel. This group here is Uncle Paul, Aunty Victoria, and James and David. This one is grandpappy Michael and grandmammy Whinnifred. And this one is my dad."
Jack started to well up with tears, he walked to his dad who looked like he was sleeping rough and hugged him, everyone else was mixed up in their own discussions.
"Dad I'm so sorry, this is all my fault. I-if I'd only been here then-"
"Then it wouldn't of made a difference."
Jack's dad didn't really hug him back and Mark felt a bit dissapointed but didn't do anything. After all it was his wife that had died.
"Go sit on the couch Seán. Yar cousins haven't seen ye in years."
Jack just nodded, walked over to the couch and plopped down. He was depressed. Mark sat next to Jack and pulled him into a hug again.
"You alright Jacky?"
Mark said quietly. Jack shook his head.
"I miss her Mark.... I just want to go home and stay with y-"
"Can I have everyone's attention?"
Sophie asked.
"In a bit love."
Mark replied to Jack. Everyone went quiet and looked at Sophie.
"I'd like to welcome home Seán who will be moving back home!"
Sophie pointed at Jack who looked outraged, he stood up.
"I never said ANYTHING about moving in. I'm staying in a hotel with Mark and I won't be seeing ye ever again after the funeral tomorrow. Ye have done nothing but made my life a misery! I'm still going back to California with my boyfriend Mark. Don't twist my words and don't talk to me."
Jack shook his head and stormed out past Sophie. Mark got up, apologised to everyone then ran out after Jack.
Mark found him sat on a wide swing, his feet barely touching the floor and wiping his eyes with his long sleeves. He walked over and sat on the wing next to him. Mark's legs touched the ground so he used that to his advantage by swinging lightly.
"Jack if I knew it was this bad with your family I.... I don't know..."
"Its alright Mark.. There's nothing ye can do, they're Irish."
Mark chuckled at Jack's comment.
"Do you just want to go home after the funeral?"
Jack teared up and nodded, while Mark wrapped his arms around him.
"It's alright Jackaboy. I'm here."
