Chapter 20

We all walk back into the hospital, and sit in the waiting room. A hour goes by and Dino and Milo's family comes through the lobby. Milo and Dino's moms were holding arms. Rod was talking to Milo's uncle Harold and his cousin Bennie.

Walking behind them was Dino's dad who wasn't living with them but was still involved. Their family is very weird but you'll find about that in book two. They come over to me and give me a hug.

"Oh my god. how is he?" Dino's mom asks pulling away from our hug.

"They haven't given us an update." I respond wiping away a fallen tear.

"Have they said anything about Milo?" his cousin Bennie asked.

"Not yet." I say looking back at Japree who is now sleeping.

"How is he doing?" His uncle Harold asks.

"Not well." I respond simply.

"Can I talk to you outside?" Dino's dad says from behind Bennie.

"Sure." I say looking back at Japree

"He'll be fine." His mom says covering him up with a blanket.

"Okay lets go." I say walking behind Dino's dad to the front of the hospital where it was quiet at.

"So, you turned my son out?" He asks turning around to face me..

"Mr. Perkins, I don't want to argue about something like this right now. You may not accept it, but I love your son." I say getting ready to turn around back into the hospital before he grabs my arm.

"You're right. I may not accept it, but with your help, God willing he makes it, I would like you to teach me to understand. That's my son up there, and I've known you since you were three. My feelings don't change for you or him. As long as you take care of my boy no matter what comes out of this. Promise me you'll be there for him." He says tearing up, his voice crackling with every word.

"I will Mr. Perkins. I owe him more than anything." I respond

"Why is that?" he asks curiously.

"Because..." I start but i'm cut off by Bennie yelling.

"The doctor is giving us some news. Come on!" He yells and turns back in to the building.

"You go ahead sir. I don't want to know." I say shaking my leg, and letting the tears well up.

"No, you're gonna come up there with me, and listen to this. You don't want to regret not being there." He says patting my back and turning me around.

We walk back up to waiting room where the Doctor was standing waiting for our return. Everyone was standing facing him, even Japree.

"I assume this is everyone." The Doctor says looking at all of us.

"Yes, Dr. Garns." Milo's mother says. "We are all their family." She says looking around at everyone.

"Okay." He takes a deep sigh. "After two hours of surgery we managed to get the bullets out of them both."

Everyone sighs a sigh of relief and hugs each other.

"But..." I say still standing in the same position with seriousness in my face. There is always a but.

The Doctor looks at me. "You must be Maeko?" He asks.

"Yes sir he is." Bree says.

"He said your name when we were prepping him" he smiles.
