After the whole fiasco with the vision,Evan avoided me for about three weeks. Eventually he said he could tolerate me if I didn't bother him too much. He also said that if I ever mentioned his parents again, I wouldn't wake up the next day. So, I didn't bother him and certainly didn't bring up the car accident. I kept my distance. Until the day he took a shower. Now, I know you're thinking. " people take showers every day. What's the big deal?" Well, This particular day is what made us become friends.
I had been in the main room and was coming back to our room when I heard it. Someone was singing. A guy was singing which, isn't something that happened here normally. I followed the sound and realized that it was coming from the bathroom in my room. I stood outside the bathroom door in confusion. Is that Evan? I thought I've never heard him sing before... Wait. Is he singing what i think he's singing.. I stood there in shock as Evan's voice carried through the air." I think I'm gonna lose my mind, Something deep inside me I can't give up.."
I can't believe this.. I thought He's actually singing it.
" I think I'm gonna lose my mind.."He's singing...
" I roll and I roll, till I'm out of luck, yeah.."
One Direction
Yep. You read that correctly. Evan, who looks like he will kill you in two seconds, was singing One Direction. I started laughing quietly behind my hand so he wouldn't hear me ( our doors aren't very soundproof ).But, when Evan started singing " Best Song Ever " I completely lost it. I toppled over onto the ground as I clutched my sides from laughing so hard. A few minutes later he came out of the bathroom wearing only skinny jeans and drying his hair which was now deep blue, thanks to the water.
" Kyle, have you seen my shirt? I think I left it out here when I was gathering my clothes-" Evan stopped talking when he saw me. " Uhhhh... Kyle? Small Child? You okay? Why are you laughing on the floor?" I was laughing so hard that I couldn't answer him. " Did you see something funny? Hear something?" I nodded. My laughter had subsided into giggling, so I was able to answer him.
" Yeah, I heard something."
" What did you hear that was sooo funny?" Evan rolled his eyes and tapped his foot on the floor. I just stared at him, waiting for him to understand. Slowly, a look of realization came over his face and he turned bright red and started stuttering. The look on his face made me start laughing again. As I lay cackling on the floor Evan glared at me. "What's so funny?"
"Nothing! Oh my gosh your face!"
"My face is funny?"
"No.. You just look so shocked!"
I collapsed into another fit of laughter as Evan stepped toward me "Oh yeah?" He muttered " We'll see who's laughing in a second." I was so dead. That was my cue to get out of that room.
As I tried to run away, Evan chased me.He ran after me blushing bright red and screaming profanities that would make a sailor ask him if he kissed his mother with that mouth. Nurse Cassandra eventually caught us and asked what was going on. Evan explained how he was jamming out to some 1D in the shower and when he was getting dressed he realized that he left his shirt on his bed. So when he went to go get it he saw me "curled into a ball on the ground laughing like an idiot " At the mention of Evan singing One Direction songs Cassandra had to stifle her giggles. Evan continued to bore holes into my skull as he turned even more red.
"Although Evan, you sounded really good. Just like one of the guys in the band." I said, trying to cheer him up
"Really?" He was clearly skeptical of my statement.
"You sounded just like... Like the guy with the hair...what's his name? Hair... Hairy. Harry...Harry Styles! That's his name. You sounded just like Harry Styles." Evan smiled shyly and then turned to me, looked me dead in the eyes and said " Harry Styles is my queen." I just stared at Evan for a second before bursting into another fit of giggling. Even Cassandra started laughing. When Evan when to punch me, Cassandra held him back and said " Enough, you can't just resort to violence."
" Yes I can."
" No."
"But Cassie.... Kyle hurt my feelings.."
The Nurse just stared blankly at Evan before finally saying " Okay, thats it. I've had enough of you guys fighting. I don't know what happened between you two, but this ends now." Cassandra dragged us into the main room and told us we needed to " talk out our problems." She said she trusted we wouldn't kill each other, & was on her way. After she left, Evan and I sat in an awkward silence. After a few seconds Evan gave me a peculiar look and whispered " your eyes are purple. I've never met someone who has purple eyes.." I felt my cheeks grow warm. I never liked my appearance, especially my eyes. People called it a "devil's mark." Yet another thing about me that was unnatural. " Yeah.. It's a genetic mutation called Alexandria's Genesis." I said, still very self conscious about it.
" I've always hated my eyes."
" Really? I would love to have purple eyes."
I stared at Evan in shock before replying. " You literally are the first person to ever say that to me."
" seriously?"
" Yeah. I mean, most people said it was extremely unnatural and was like the spawn of Satan or something.."
" Well it's their fault for not being able to see the beauty."
" You think my eyes are beautiful?"
Evan shrugged and simply said " purple is my favorite color." I wasn't expecting that. " huh, I thought it would've been blue." We continued our conversation like that for a few hours before Evan finally asked " Why do you care what people think about you so much?" To be honest, I wasn't sure myself. I think the reason I was trying to make friends in the hospital was because I never had friends outside of here. " Not sure. I've always been one of those kinds of people." I replied.
" Why don't you tell people that you care about their opinion? So they know to treat you right." Evan offered " It's better than them just blurting out their opinion."
" What would I say? Would I just go up to them and say ' Hi my name is Kyle and I care what you think?' That wouldn't work, Evan."
"Okay Blurryface." Evan mused
"What?" I had no idea what he was talking about.Evan stared at me like I had lost my mind.
"Are you serious?"
"No,what does Blurryface mean?"
"Dude! Twenty-One pilots?please tell me you know who they are.."
"No clue."
Evan stared at me for a few minutes before grabbing my hands and pulling me to our room.
"Umm... What are you doing?"
"Introducing you to twenty one pilots,so sit."
"No,thats cool.. I'm sure you have better things to do.."
"SIT."
"Okay,drama queen.."
Evan gave me a strange look before sitting down beside me and began looking through his music. He put on a playlist labeled TØP and turned it up full volume.
"This my young friend. This is the beauty that is Twenty One Pilots."
"Evan..the song isn't even playi-"
"Shhhhhhhhh.." He put his hand over my mouth and whispered "just listen"
As the song played Evan began to sing along"Wish we could turn back time to the good old days, when our mamas sang us to sleep but now we're stressed out"
Evan had a nice voice. If he was in school,he'd probably be the soloist in choir. After the song was over he began to talk about the band and how he thought Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun were the power duo. He talked about interviews, concerts, merch, CDs, the "perfection that is Tyler's rapping skills" and suddenly I realized... Evan is a fangirl. A complete and utter fangirl. The image of him squealing like a little girl popped into my head and I felt the corners of my mouth twitch into a smile. We sat and listened to the music for hours on end. Next thing I knew, I was asleep.

I woke up on the floor. Our room was pitch black except for the dim light from Evan's phone. He was sitting on his bed, looking at his phone. He was probably on Tumblr, still fangirling about Twenty One Pilots. He had left me on the floor. Thanks Evan. Such a great roommate. " Really? You just left me on the floor?" I asked. Evan barely glanced up from his phone and replied " I gave you a blanket."
" You still left me on the floor."
" Yeah, but now you have a blanket."
The blanket was very comfy, I will admit. But I wasn't giving Evan the satisfaction of knowing that.
" Whatever." I huffed as I curled into the blanket. Evan gave an exasperated sigh and muttered " you complain, and yet you still lay there. I swear you are the most annoying friend ever..."
Friend. He said that I was his friend. I mentally rewarded myself a cookie as I drifted off to sleep, happy I had made a friend.
