Chapter 4

We have been on the road for over an hour and the silence was almost more than i could handle. Nobody had said a word except for when Nicholas would tell Gage to take a left or right. I'm assuming his trackers were telling him the route through a mind link- something that i wish i had. I'd love to be able to talk in my mind to the others- much more efficient than picking up a phone. Let's get real- if i'm ever in trouble i'd be fleeing not telling my attacker to hold on a sec while i alert my family.

To make matters worse i could feel Nicholas's eyes boring holes in the back of my head- i was quite proud of myself; i haven't turned around once. I felt my pocket vibrate; pulling out my phone i started to text Eric back.

"That dad?"

I glanced over to Gage before shaking my head

"Na- it's Eric. He is finally done sulking about not being asked to come"

I sent a quick text back to him letting him know that yes- we were safe and no- i have not told my brothers anything about us. Like right now would be an ideal time Eric? no; i did an internal eye roll... Men

Gage nodded before Max piped up in the back seat

"You and Eric work a lot together- pretty close eh?"

I pulled the sun visor down and looked at Max in the reflection

"What's your point Max?"

I kept my eyes on him; fully aware that if i looked to my left i would find Nicholas's big orbs staring at me. Normally if i were in this situation i'd have some witty rude remark but there was something about Nicholas that made me want to keep my mouth shut.

Max shrugged his shoulders

"No point; just saying you guys are pretty close. I'd almost say to close"

I glared at him in the mirror- what was he getting at? What is it with men wanting to talk at inappropriate times?

"Fuck off Maximus"

He smirked at me and playfully threw his arms up in defense

"Just sayin is all- besides that hickey on your neck tells me all that i need to know"

My hand instinctively shot up and covered the spot where my neck meets my shoulder. Frickin Eric- i completely forgot he did that. I turned around in my seat and punched Max on his leg. Before I could hit him again a deep angry rumble shook the jeep.

It must have surprised Gage more because he jerked the wheel to the right; on instinct i jumped and grabbed it keeping the jeep on the road.

Gage swatted my hands away before slowing down and parking on the side. Before anyone could say anything the beta growled out

"No way- Nic no- no"

I looked over at Nicholas; his eyes were closed- his chest rising and falling rapidly. Glancing over to the mangy beta he looked at Nicholas then back to me before shaking his head in disgust.

"I'm going to run the rest of the way"

He looked at all of us one more time before opening the door and jumping out.

He kicked the door shut before stalking off into the tree's. What the hell just happened?

Looking over at Max he looked just as confused

"Uh did you want to run to man?"

Nicholas looked at me quick before closing his eyes and shook his head no.
