Chapter8
Nicholas stopped right in front of me; his chest heaving as he tried to calm himself. Without taking his eyes off me he barked orders at Gage and Max. Telling them to get into the jeep and drive; Gage looked like he was going to argue but that mangy little beta placed his hand on Gage's shoulder while shaking his head.
He leaned over and whispered something in Gage's ear; with a slight nod gage grabbed Max by the arm and dragged him to the jeep.
"I'll see you soon Ash"
What in the actual fuck? They were actually gonna leave me with Nicholas in the state he's in?!
Apparently so because as soon as the beta jumped in they took off. Sighing i looked up at Nicholas; whose eyes had yet to leave to my face
"Well now what?!"
He ran his big hand over his face before taking a breath.
"Follow me"
He turned and started to walk back towards the trees; after contemplating my options i chose to follow him- better than standing outside the warehouse by myself.I stayed a ways behind him- watching his back contract with every tree he moved. I know he was only making it easier for me to follow his path- i really doubt he ever moved trees, stumps and debris every time he decided to take a stroll in the woods.
I wasn't complaining tho; every time he bent down to pick something up i got a great view of his ass- no shame over here.
He didn't try to talk to me and i never tried either- the only sound around us was the birds chirping and the leaves and sticks cracking under our feet.
He stopped and turned towards me- a silent motion for hurry it up i assume. I put my hands in my pockets and came up to stand beside him. He had a small smile as he grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the trees into a small opening.
How could I never have noticed this? Out of all the times i've been out here- which sure was only a handful and i was busy dealing with a supernatural ou would have thought i would have come across this.
A River broke the tree line- not small enough to be a pond and not big enough to be a lake. As i stepped closer i could see how the clear the water was. The bottom had a few fish swimming around and i could make out every rock perfectly.
"I found this place a few years back. I came out here to hunt and have some time to myself when i smelled the most amazing thing- it was like honey with vanilla and a touch of tobacco. I have never liked the smell of smoke- until that day"
I looked back at him- waiting for him to continue
"I tried to track it but it seemed i was a step behind... always a step behind"
I sat down by the water; looking back at him i patted the spot the next to me. Taking off my jacket i let the sun's rays warm my naked arms. I really needed new clothes my wife beater has seen better days.
Nicholas plopped down beside me
"I came back here you know; trying to find that smell but i never did"
I kept watching the water as it swirled around under a rock and back out down stream
"What was the smell? Did you ever figure it out?"
I didn't even realize i spoke- the words just tumbled out
His deep chuckle sent a shiver straight to my bones
