So it turns out there is a screw that attaches the ignition to the dashboard from the inside ......... who knew?
And on top of that, it's an $80 screw! My guess is that the cost of mining, refining, and shipping the metal to make the screw costs less than $20, but what do I know...... Of course I paid it. no questions.
On the plus side, the screw and the labor cost less than the tow, so all in all a good solution.
