SONG Monsters, Ruelle
Wesley threw me out of the way and fought with the man. They exchanged gruesome punches but when the man was down, Wesley ripped off a branch from a nearby tree and stabbed it into the man's heart. The man's body turned pale, eyes like glossy stone.
I felt blood, but it was likely just a scratch on my head.
"Are you hurt?" he asked softly with disappointment seeping through.
I didn't answer.
"That's fine. You don't have to answer. I'll explain everything to you tomorrow. Let me walk you home."
I let him. The rest of the way was silence. He kept looking at my neck so I'm guessing it was forming a bruise. I didn't want to understand what just happened. I don't think my head could take it. My head oh gosh. It was hurting. I forgot I was bleeding. I slightly touched it, it felt numb.
What was happening?
Everything went blank.
WESLEY'S POINT OF VIEW
I quickly swooped her up before she fell to the floor. I held her in my arms. She was hurt. I have to tell her the truth, it's the only way to keep her safe so she'll be ready for anything that comes her way; like what just happened. I couldn't just brush it off with one little mind trick anyway.
I know now that I was followed here. This vampire said she was exquisite. What makes her so special? I still can't figure her out. She doesn't seem to think she's more than average. She couldn't know why.
I can't enter her house. I had to bring her to mine.
"Wes! Who the hell is that? Why did you bring them here?" Grace demanded my answer.
"She got attacked by a vampire, not bitten though. I got there before it happened and killed him," I told her.
"That's great and all but why did you take her here? I smell that she's injured! And she fainted? Why didn't you take her to the hospital?"
"Oh that seems like a great idea. Why didn't I think of it before? Just show up and say it was a vampire," I mocked her sarcastically.
"I'll get a wet cloth, some disinfectant, and a bandage," she said and went for them.
She can be hospitable when she wants to be. She was a nurse when we were alive. She helped soldiers who were battling in the civil war.
I laid Adair on the sofa and moved a piece of stray hair out of the way from her face.
"All right lover boy I'm back."
She was cleaning the scratch and i was dabbing the wet cloth on her head when her eyes opened.
"Resh..."
"What the hell did she just say?" Grace wondered.
"I don't know," I replied.
She closed her eyes then opened them again.
"Where am I?" she asked.
She said it so angelic. Her lips were perfectly shaped, a perfect shade of pink and her eyes looked brighter than they did yesterday. Grace went to get Tylenol and left me alone with her.
"I'm sorry, I promise I'll tell you everything. Just... not now."
ADAIR'S POINT OF VIEW
"I want to know everything now!" I demanded him to explain when a girl with sandy brown hair like Wesley's appeared with a bottle of Tylenol.
"Here you go.. wow this is awkward," she said.
"No kidding. Someone explain what is happening!"
"Please leave me and Adair alone for now Grace... Thank you," he told the girl.
Grace left.
"You know what I'm out of here. I just want to go home."
"No, please wait. Let me tell you the truth, I'll try to help you understand."
"Forget it. I don't want to know. Leave me alone," I dashed out of the beautiful home that had modern touches and some historical ones.
1:05 a.m.
There were only woods around the house. I followed the end of the driveway and kept walking down the street. There was no street lights, only the light of the moon. All I could hear was my breathing. I turned into a cemetery. This may seem like a horrible idea but it made the most sense. The stone sign said 'Dalet Cemetery'. I called Keziah to pick me up. While I waited I sat on a gravestone (sorry dead person) and pondered. You don't really know what's after death. Will you live in another dimension like heaven or be reincarnated and have many different lives? By God? By science? I thought I believed that we're all living, created organisms who have to just no longer exist once we wilt like sleeping with no dreams. Eternal darkness. I had no idea. We could easily believe anything. Once we're no longer alive would we just wander around, just our soul, no concept of time while the rest of the world goes on around us? I wouldn't want my loved ones or I to experience something the world is unsure of. Could immortality be real? Keziah arrived 20 minutes later, and I got into the car aware of the lecture that awaited me.
