SONG You're Mine, Meiko

"I was beginning to think you bailed on our boy, doll face."

"Conall, call me doll face again and I'll hurt you," I warned his ego.

"All right," he mumbled.

"Thanks."

"Want to dance with me?"

"Are you trying to prepare for the school dance? Because I won't go with you," I chuckled.

"I'm waiting, but I can't help myself."

"I guess I'll dance."

We went to the dance floor where the drunk adults were, and nobody even thought about our age. We casually danced with each other. Absolutely no sexual moves. I warned him about even moving his hands below my waist. He seemed to have a pretty fun time with me, but of course he would. I hope it didn't make him think he somehow 'won me over'.

"May I cut in?" someone said in a husky tone.

It was Alec, of course.

I had no say in it, he just went ahead and let Alec take his place. Conall didn't even act territorial. He just offered me up like a plate of sausages to a Rottweiler.

I didn't want to seem rude and do or say anything I might regret later, so I just went on with the dance.

I looked into his eyes. They were a brighter shade of grey, almost like a storm cloud in the beginning of formation. It didn't look like it bothered him that I was just staring, observing.

Stop.

My human instinct told me I shouldn't be around him, and I knew it was him following me that night in the woods.  His eyes were just the color as Wesley's. He told me that day that vampires usually have silvery-grey eyes. Oh. How on earth did I not know it before? Am I really that stupid? A vampire chased me through the woods, and I was dancing with him right now. Did he know I knew? How much worse can my life get?

I don't think he would try to do anything in public, but I didn't want to take any chances.

"What do you want with me? I know you were the one who chased me in the woods," I pushed.

"You still aren't swooning over my charm yet," he said condescendingly, avoiding me.

"Answer the question."

"I want to know what makes you so special. Is something wrong with you?" His eyebrows knitted together in confusion.

"You stalk me, and think there's nothing wrong with you?"

I suddenly felt weightless, realizing he had dipped me, swooped me up, then brought me closer to his chest and put his mouth to my ear, whispering, "I think you should be careful with how you talk to me."

The way he danced with me didn't correspond to the music playing in the background.

"I don't have to be. You owe me an explanation," I said, knowing I was playing with fire. "Following me, showing up at places I'm at with my best friend?"

We stopped dancing. He held my arms together with his strong grip. "You're exquisite," he exasperated.

Just like that other vampire said right before he tried to kill me.

He let go of my arms. "Well I think I'll see what Aurora's up to at the moment. I'll be seeing you, Adair."

Aurora.

"If you do anything to hurt her, I will hurt you!" I raged as he walked away.

Not like I could really do anything, which made me feel helpless. He had strength and agility, while I had human limbs. I needed to tell Wesley.

I didn't want to leave Mishu on his night, but I also couldn't be here any longer. I spotted the bush of brown hair he had on his head and went to where he was; dancing among the group. I wanted badly to talk low to avoid a scene but I had to be loud for him to hear me over the music.

"I'm sorry to go so soon, but I'm not really feeling that good all of a sudden. Hope you have a fun time the rest of the night! Love you," I told him and walked out, but he ran after me.

"Wait!" He yelled. He caught up to me when I was already somewhat far from Blackout. He had to catch up with his breath.

Mishu gulped before continuing. "I have something to tell you that I've been holding in for a long time."

I was nervous about what he had to say. Whenever someone says 'I have to tell you something', there's reason to be.

"You can tell me. Is there anything wrong?"

"Nothing wrong, I hope," he hesitated, looking into my eyes with his deep brown ones.

"Could you be less cryptic?" I smiled partially.

In that moment, his mind seemed to have just run blank. No words, no movements—utterly still. He seemed inanimate but still looking at me, until he turned his gaze to the bright full moon. Mishu droppedbto his knees.

"Oh my God! Mishu what's wrong?" I tried to hold him up but he shoved me away.

His eyes turned a light amber stone color, unlike the chestnut they had been. He growled like a dog would but loudly hoarse and grating, letting out a howl of pain between. I started to back away out of complete terror from what I was witnessing. His mouth opened to a set of protruding canines.

I started to run. I absolutely wanted to stay and do whatever I could to help him but I knew I would get extremely hurt. Whatever was going on, it clearly wasn't Mishu that I saw in those eyes.

I ran for my life as I heard the raucous of bones cracking and the yelling of an animal.

I ran as fast as I could, feeling the wind rush past my ears. But I couldn't keep up with my own feet and tripped, falling face down. Of course I would, trying to outrun something that could easily catch up and tear me to shreds. I turned back towards the creature and put my arms ahead of my face, bracing for the impact.
