SONG Sweet Nothing, Calvin Harris ft. Florence Welch
I followed behind.
"You can't avoid guys for the rest of your life," I reminded her.
"Yeah, I know, they make up almost half of the human population. I heard there's more women than men, I think I should go lesbian."
"Quit it."
She laughed.
"Fine. I think I'll give it a try with Jerome--"
"Me what?" Jerome approached us. "Verity Collins," he said giving a smile. "Why are you guys at the bar?"
"Girl problems, you wouldn't understand," I said grinning.
"Jerome, do you wanna' go out on a date with me some time?" Verity asked.
"Oh--I--uh, yeah that would be great."
"Cool."
It was hard to hide my huge smile. I know he'll make her happy.
"You girls want a free drink on the house to celebrate this turn of events? " He asked.
"Why not? Couldn't hurt," Verity answered for both of us.
"Here ya go, Long Island Iced Tea's for both of you," he said setting them up in front of us.
"Thanks," we said simultaneously.
Yes, we're fifteen. That doesn't mean anything when there's no police around. Truth be told, I've barely had any type of alcoholic drink before. Only a sip of some to taste, my mother's fabulous idea.
We finished our drinks and went back to our ocean view booth.
"Guysss, Verity is going on a date with Jerome!" I informed them.
"Finally," Sage said hugging Verity against her will.
"Hmhm," was how Conall responded.
"Well I think it's getting too late, I'm going to go. This was fun guys. I wish Mishu would've been here too," Sage said hugging us and leaving.
"I think I'm going to barf already. Oh gosh," I said a little too loud.
"Lightweight," Conall and Verity remarked.
"I'm going to go leave with Sage. I'll see you guys." I walked out.
It would be completely dark if not for dock lights aligning the floor. I can hear the waves crashing in the ocean. I smiled to myself and kept walking; kind of dancing my way along, trying to catch up to Sage.
But there was a scream.
I saw down a dark alley a girl fighting with someone matching the shadows.
"Sage?" I yelled, almost stumbling over.
Her head was suddenly bashed against the brick wall and my neck was in the grasp of a woman with fangs, and blood red eyes.
Before I could process what was happening, I was unconsciously thrown into the freezing water.
Everyone besides Sage had "given their condolences". My closest friends all agreed to give me space for the time being. Sage made her way to me as quickly as possible and we wrapped our arms around each other. She was the one out of all of us who didn't know what even the little bit of loss felt like, and she admitted that. But she did whatever she could to comfort me in mine. I appreciated it so much. Her lighthearted smile made me feel the slightest better, even though we both knew it wasn't happiness.
Adair.
Adair.
Please, wake up.
Cold...
My eyes shot open and I abruptly sat up on the creaky wood floor beneath me. I was at the docks. It was sunrise. I'm freezing. I'm drenched.
"Sage..." I choked.
"Thank god. You're awake. What happened to you?"
Wesley was here, wet too, and I was enveloped in his arms. My lips were quivering.
More people were here too. Red lights, blue lights.
Police.
"Sage!" I yelled out trying to squirm out of his arms.
"Shh. Shh. I'm so sorry."
"Oh.. my god." My voice broke.
Sage was dead.
Killed.
By a vampire...
"It was a vampire--"
He moved his hand over my mouth.
The amount of rage I was feeling scared me. All I wanted to do was rip that woman to shreds for slaughtering my friend. The hate heated me emotionally, but not physically. Physically I was an iceberg.
I quickly moved myself to the edge after he removed his hand, and threw up into the water. Good thing he removed it. The cause was a mixture of disgust from someone doing this, and the fact that I'm a lightweight and I remember drinking just a little last night.
I spotted a lean guy with dark hair and in dark clothing.
Alec was here?
He walked over to our location.
"Alec?" I was startled.
"Hi." His expression was bland.
His eyes weren't cold like the last time I saw him. He looked over to Wesley.
"I made sure they didn't know anyone else was here. She's safe, her name won't be publicized anywhere. That vampire won't know how to track her for now."
"What is going on?" I asked implausible.
"I heard you scream..." Wesley said, face down. "This guy, Alec, was fighting off a woman. Your friend was dead when I came. I pulled you out of the water luckily before you drowned. I don't think you have hypothermia. Your body just needs to heat up.."
"She took off and I couldn't catch her. I'm glad you're fine," Alec said facing back to me.
"Sage isn't," I reminded them.
My rage clouded my sadness. There's nothing I could've done.
"She didn't deserve to die by getting her head bashed against a wall!" I added.
She should've grew old-- had happy kids with her favorite male model.
I got up and started my way home, deflecting myself from the crime scene.
"Let me take you home."
"No Wes. Thank you for saving me, but right now I need to be completely alone."
I was halfway and surrounded by more forest when I noticed Alec beside me.
I stopped.
"What do you want? You save me from being attacked by my best friend then show up at my house wanting to eat me, now you appear trying to help the night my friend is murdered."
Suddenly my head was on his hard chest and my arms tucked behind myself. He was holding me. Why? I don't know.
"What are you doing? Stop!"
"You're so sad."
