He's tricked me before, and now he's tricked me again. I'm such a moron, and now I'm going to suffer the consequences. My memories, a big part of my personality were being taken away. It felt like something horrible was happening, but I couldn't remember why it was horrible.
I'd repeat Mabel over and over in my head, hoping I could cling onto one of the most valuable things in my life.
Mabel, Mabel, Mabel, Mabel, Mabel, Mabel, Mabel, Mabel, Mabel, Mabel...
Each time I repeated that word, I became more and more confused on why exactly I was saying it.
Mabel... Mabel... Mabel..? Mabel! Maybe? May...
At some point, I stopped saying that word, for whatever reason. The word didn't seem to hold any special meaning, and I forgot the word all together.
My mind drew a blank, I couldn't remember what I was worried about. Then again, maybe there was nothing for me to worry about in the first place. And, it's not like I have amnesia or whatever. I can remember lots of things, its just that something inside me was making me feel sick. Making me feel shameful, like 'how dare you'! It was hard to explain.
I noticed my vision was starting to whiten, light flooding through the slow opening of my eyes. How long had I been in the dark? I couldn't remember.
First, I saw a gloved hand intertwined with mine. My eyes followed golden sleeves, trailing up into a heavy yellow coat, brandished with black ribbon and golden clasps. The outfit looked a lot like the many books I've read on human piracy from my... Where did I learn this from, again?
I noticed the man looking down on me was looking rather impatient. I straightened my posture, and made eye contact with him. Was he a friend, or was he an enemy? He felt dangerous.
His expression then shifted to a look of concern. He knelt down and grasped both my hands, "Oh, Pine Tree. We thought we lost you!" he spoke in a worried tone.
I gave him a look of confusion, furrowing my brows, "Who are you?" I asked, looking at the man thats expression was now horrified.
Biting his lower lip, he groaned, "So, you've forgotten even who I am?"
I nodded grimly, "I'm afraid so." I said regrettably.
I looked around, the other people on the boat were smiling at me. Kind of creepily, or maybe they were just relieved to see me?
"Those damn sirens erased your memories, Pine Tree." the man said angrily, pointing to the edge of the boat.
Sirens? My memories? But, I feel perfectly fine! I stood up slowly, wobbling to the slow rock of the ship edging myself closer to the railing. The wooden planks creaked loudly as I walked over them. I peered into the ocean to see faces I'd never seen before.
One of them looked at me with a happy expression, "Dipper! You're alright!" she shouted, waving her arms frantically.
Dipper? Was that my name? But that man called me Pine Tree... I couldn't tell which name was correct, I mean both were ridiculous names in the first place!
I cleared my throat, "I, uh... Who... Who are you?" I asked cluelessly.
Her face dropped. Something inside made my insides churn, and I felt guilty.
Her eyes quivered, "What do you mean, Dipper? It's me, Mabel!" she yelled with frustration.
"Sorry, I don't know any Mabel's..." I said, rubbing the back of my neck sheepishly.
This girl sure was getting worked up for nothing! I mean, it's not like we're siblings or anything! Still... I did kind of pity her...
