4 years earlier...

Jacob picked up the bottle of beer in front of him and downed the remaining half, before adding it to the collection of the empty bottles he had created on the bar.

He checked his phone. Three missed calls and two messages.

He opened the first message. It was his sister: 'Where on earth are you Jacob??? 2 hours to go and you decide to disappear?! Call me back NOW.'
He rolled his eyes and went onto the second message, from his close friend: 'Just had your sister knocking at my door wondering if you were here. I know it's going to be a tough day mate, but you need to be there.'

He slammed his phone back down on the bar, screen faced down, and signalled to the barman for another drink, while he took off his tie and suit jacket.

He couldn't go – this was all his fault.
He couldn't go and watch his daughter be lowered into the ground, knowing that one stupid decision had caused her death.
