Jacob checked the clock on his office wall. Again.
He knew Connie's shift had ended fifteen minutes ago.
She clearly wasn't coming. He didn't blame her, as he hated himself for the hurtful words he had said.

He shuffled the papers on his desk, and then aligned them into one neat stack. He checked the door, again, but still, there was no one there.

He slowly pushed back his chair away from his desk and stood up.
He checked the clock one last time. He'd waited twenty minutes now. 

Jacob removed the stethoscope from around his neck and gently placed it on his desk.
He walked to the corner of his office to collect his jacket from the coat stand.

He hadn't heard her soft knock at the door.
But her voice behind him made him aware of her presence, as she entered the room.

"Mr Masters"
