Reece sprints towards a skyscraper and runs through its automatic doors. I follow him into the elevator and he hits the button for the top floor.
It is one of those cool glass elevators that you always see in movies, but actually being in one... It's terrifying.
We pass by a giant window on the second floor of the building and the outside is gray and dark. They are gray and dark.
Once at the top we rush out and into the room. It was an old business room, as we can tell by all of the computers and files.
I walk over to a computer and turn it on. Once it is on Reece hovers over me.
"Don't waist our time, They are gonna be here soon." he mutters.
I ignore him and go onto google anyways. I search up all of the cities surrounding LA. News in Hollywood, Orange County, Long Beach, Ventura, Anywhere! There was nothing about Them, nothing about anything anywhere. I even checked news in other countries: Russia, China, Australia, England. Nothing, every time nothing came up at all.
I then searched, where does rain come from, and a million results pop up.
"Woah, it's almost like They blocked all news," Reece sighs and I nod in agreement.
It's very late, the computer says it is seventeen after one a.m.
"Do you think we can sleep here?" I ask.
He looks around, "well They havn't come up here yet... I guess we might as well." he stands up strait and closes the blinds on the windows.
"Hungry?" he asks.
"Are you kidding? We are skinnier than runway models!" we both laugh at my comment and then eat and drink before falling to sleep.
~
Bang! This noise wakes us up.
We both hear a gun shoot off and so we rush over to a window and slightly pull up the blinds.
The sun shoots right into our eyes, it must be early. Mabey five or six a.m.
Out in the streets are two of Their drones circling a group of four. They stand in the street, one of them fallen to the ground.
Bullets shoot out of the drones constantly, another falls, then another, until finally the last man is shot as well. He stands up for a second more, taking his last glimpse at the world, then he falls to the ground with the rest.
Just like in the 7-11, the drones hover in the air as a few of Them drop down to devour the group.
As each ones head is eaten, They send the bodies back up into the drones and Their eyes go black as the bottom of the ocean. They turn into the people who's brains They consumed.
"Quinn, if they shift into the people they eat... Anyone could be one of Them."
"I know, but look, from what I have watched it seems their eyes go black if they are either changing shape or if They are angry or in danger." I reply.
"So if we meet someone, we have to put them in danger or make them mad to see if they're alive?"
"Yeah, I think that's they only way we can get away from them but not kill the living."
"Hmm," he agrees.
Just then They are finished eating and They look down at something that looks like a phone. They converse with each other as They point at the building we are in. Then They dart inside.
"We're trapped..." Reece whispers.
We each search the room for a hiding place, but all there is are open desks. There is no way They won't see us under there.
