Kat's eyes fluttered open and immediately closed again as the sunlight burst in through their bedroom window. She turned to her side; Scott was sound asleep right next to her. Kat chuckled; even when he was asleep he still managed to look adorable. His black, messy hair covered his forehead and the soft sound of his snoring made him look so peaceful. Kat checked her phone, it was midday.
She cursed out loud. She didn't usually sleep in that late into the day.
"Do you have to be so loud?" Scott mumbled his eyes still closed
"We have slept in and I'm pretty sure you trashed the apartment last night" Kat poked his chest
A smile formed on his lips. He lifted his arm, wrapping it around her waist and pulling her into a hug. She laughed before attacking him with a pillow.
"Wake up buddy."
Scott sat up groggily. His hand went up to his forehead
"Ugh. This headache"
"How much did you drink last night?" Kat asked pulling him out of the bed
She finally got Scott to get up. He was wearing black shorts from last night and a loose white shirt revealing part of his right shoulder. He was slightly muscular and had broad shoulders. On his right shoulder was a large scar. Kat remembered how he got it. They were fighting some assassins from the Evil Eye when Scott got stabbed by one of them.
"I don't know. Quite a bit" he said rubbing his eyes and interrupting her thoughts
"That's it. You need some coffee" she said grabbing his hand and leading him out of the bedroom
When she arrived into the living, Kat was expecting a huge mess. Instead she found a pile of full garbage bags and her best friend asleep on the couch.
On the couch was Ruby Aine who Kat had known her entire life. Ruby was also Elementian. She was a fire user unlike Kat who could control all four of the major elements. She was wearing black jeans and a red tank top. Her straight black had red tips and on her upper lip was a lip piercing. She had a pendant in the shape of an arrow. Ruby was also half Asian.
Element had every type of culture and ethnicity, it didn't matter the colour of their skin, if they had the power of Elementian magic, they counted as an Elementian. Kat was a big believer in equality.
Scott slowly made his way into the kitchen like a zombie. Kat went up to Ruby and shook her awake. Ruby eyes instantly opened before she jumped of the couch ready to attack someone.
Kat laughed "Sup Roobs"
Ruby pulled her into a hug. Since Ruby worked with the agency in Element, the two hardly ever saw each other anymore.
"What are you doing here?" Kat asked
"I came to see you genius"
"Yeah but I didn't even see you at the party"
"Oh yeah, by the time I arrived everyone was gone and you were asleep. The only one there was Scott. I helped him clean up and then I fell asleep on the couch" She talked about it like it wasn't that much of a big deal
"Well come on let's eat some breakfast or I guess lunch. We have a lot to catch up on" Kat said
Kat and Ruby along with a sleep deprived Scott sat on the couch. Kat made some peanut butter sandwiches and the three talked about funny memories from the agency.
"Oh, I almost forgot" Ruby said through fits of laughter
"This is my gift for you" she said handing Kat a silver box. Inside was a silver necklace identical to Ruby's however instead of an arrow pendant, it was a diamond sword.
