I was at the bottom of the stairs in my house, Lidia directly behind me.

"Happy Birthday Sweetie!"

I turned on the light and saw dozens of people inside my gigantic house.

"Thank you everyone!"

All of my friends were there, Lidia, my mom, Jackson, and many more.

We turned up some music and started dancing. We had drinks, cake, food, and-

"Mom!"

"What is it? What's wrong?"

"Where's the presents?"

"Oh, you don't get any wrapped presents this year."

"What! Why?"

My mom sighed. "I-It will all make sense tomorrow morning."

I walked off quickly. Since we had an in graved pool, I decided to cool off, besides, I had a swimsuit on under my dress.

I jumped in, other people having fun around me. How could nobody get me anything for my 16th birthday!

"Hey Talia."

"Oh! Hi Jackson."

"You seem sad, what's wrong?"

I huffed, as though it was obvious. "You."

"Me? I thought I was perfect!" He thought I'd laugh at his joke. "I'm sorry, tell me what I did."

"You along with everyone else, didn't get me anything for my birthday!"

"Oh about that, um..." Jackson nervously scratched his neck. "Sorry, your mom made us swear to not to."

"Fine."

I angrily hopped out of my pool and went inside. I picked up my phone and saw it was 9:48pm. My mom shooed everyone out of the house, including Lidia. What is going on with mom!

"Talia, I need for you to go to bed." Mom said sternly.

I glared at her in response.

"Talia, now!"

"Ugh! Fine!"

I stomped upstairs, layed down, and decided to get this nightmare over with. I fell asleep in minutes.

----------

I looked at my clock the next morning, 9:20am.
I jumped out of bed, only, I didn't land on two feet. I landed on four.

"---" I couldn't speak! I walked on all fours over to my mirror. Oh my god, I was a...

Wolf!

I think. I pinched or bit my hand, er, paw.

It hurt, I was not dreaming. I tried opening my door, it took at least ten minutes. Its harder than it looks with paws. When I was down stairs, my mother was standing, awaiting for me.

She smiled,"I see you survived the shifting."

She's lucky I can't talk.

"Talia, you are a werewolf," Obviously, I thought. "The shifting happens the first time on your 16th birthday. The night it happens, you will either survive, you're bones will crack, or the bond will break. If the bond breaks between you and your wolf, it will kill you both."

"But, you survived."

I sat down and stared at her.

"Has your wolf spoken yet?"

Lie

Wait! Was that my wolf? Why would she want me to lie? I didn't know, but I decided to obey. I shook my head no.

Mom sighed. "To turn back, you must will it, think as you usually do, then imagine yourself walking on two legs."

I did. And before I knew it, I was on two feet. I stood up, struggling to speak. I felt, smothered, so I fled.

I ran into the forest and sat down. What would Lidia think? I think I know why I didn't get any presents now.

It will be alright

My wolf explained to me that we are two souls, sharing one body. When I am human, one of us can be in control. Same thing when we are in wolf form. Right now, I let her be in control. She shifted and ran into the forest. I wouldn't fight back, I just wanted to leave.

We cannot go back

I agree.

I didn't want to face Lidia, my mom, my friends, I couldn't. I was a monster, so I left...never to return.
