I looked in my closet, debating on what I should wear. To most, this was just another Montgomery dinner party, and it was, only the guest list was what changed everything. Ezra Fitz was coming. He was my old English teacher, my dads colleague, and... My boyfriend. Although, nobody knows that, except for my friends, Hanna, Emily, and Spencer, and let's not forget, the notorious A.
As I'm staring blankly into my closet, my mom leans against to doorway. "Wear the black one," she tells me. "It makes you look more grown up." I smile and thank her for helping me.
As I'm getting ready, I hear my dad taking to Mike. "This is an important dinner, Mike, and we'd all appreciate if you'd be here," my dad says. Because of Mike's unusual behavior lately, we've all been worrying about him.
"I will be," Mike snarkingly replies.
After dad heads back downstairs, I continue getting ready. I don't think I've ever been so nervous.
After I finally get done about an hour later, I take a look at myself in the mirror. My mom was right, I really do look gown up. My black dress hugs my petite body in all the right places, giving me curves I didn't know I had. As I'm admiring myself, the doorbell rings. "Aria! Can you get that?" My mom yells from the kitchen.
"Coming!" I yell back on my way down the stairs. I open the door, hoping to find Ezra, but instead its just Nancy and Elliot, close family friends. "Hey, I'm glad you could make it," I tell them.
They go into the living room and start a conversation with my dad. I go into the kitchen to help mom when the doorbell rings again. My dad goes to answer the door and I stop in my tracks when I hear who it is. "Ezra, I'm so glad you could make it, please come in." Ezra's gaze catches mine, but is briefly torn away as he starts talking to my dad. He hands him a bottle of scotch and they soon begin chatting about Ezra's new position in Hollis. My dad makes a brief comment about how since Mr. Fitz is no longer my English teacher, I will have to get used to calling him Ezra. If only he knew I think to myself.
Once again, the doorbell rings. Curiously, I open the door, not expecting another guest, but am pleasantly surprised to find out who it is. "Jason," I exclaim, not knowing why he's here. He steps inside the house and hands be a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Stunned at the gesture, I ask, "What are these for?" He chuckles, sensing my confusion and tells me their for my mother.
At the mention of her name, she walks up and thanks Jason for the flowers and for coming to dinner. I walk with her into the kitchen and while she's finding a vase for the flowers I ask her why she invited Jason. "Because," she starts, "He's new to town, and I thought he might like to meet people and have a good home cooked meal."
It isn't that I'm is opposed to having Jason here, over the past couple of weeks we've really bonded. I guess you could say we've even become friends, despite what my friends think of him. I guess I'm just worrying too much. After all, its not like that much can happen in one night.
Right?
