I Do Care

I was walking back from Lucky Leon's, with cupcakes in tow, when a car pulls up next to me, and a familiar voice asks, "Taking a study break?"

Smiling, I reply, "More like a sugar break."

I never understood how he could do that, always make me smile, even when I was having the worst day possible.

"Sounds more fun than what I've been up to. I had to buy a pad lock for my shed."

I looked at him questioningly, wondering why he'd have to do that, and why he was telling me.

"Someone broke in today," he elaborated.

"Really?"

He nods. "Well, it couldn't have been Mike. He hasn't left his room since Thursday," I say, a little defensive.

"I didn't go there," Jason replies, his eyes softening, letting me know he meant it. "Listen, I'm glad I ran into you. I was hoping we could talk," he says nervously, as he gets out of the car and walks towards me. "I hope I didn't step out of bounds earlier. I really was trying to help."

I smile at his nervousness and quickly reassured him. "No, you didn't. I just have a lot going on right now," I vaguely confessed.

Jason, now looking even more nervous than before (if that's even possible) began talking again, this time, rendering me speechless. "The truth is, I do care about your brother," I smiled at that, "but I also care about you, and I wanted to tell you, in the off chance, that you might feel the same way."

Wow.

I tried to think of something to say, but that was unnessessary because the next thing I know, Jason is leaning towards me, with hope and passion in his eyes. He slowly lifts my chin up towards him, and I can feel how nervous he is, and without waiting for my approval, he kisses me.

The kiss is slow, but from the first moment our lips touched, I knew everything he told me was true, and what once started out as a slow, timid kiss, turned passionate and fiery. Every emotion I felt for this beautiful man, from the moment I first met him, to him telling me he missed my pink hair, all the way up until now, was finally released.

Nothing compared to the way Jason made me feel in that moment. Wanted. Needed. Loved. I thought what I had for Ezra was love, but no, this, this is what love truly feels like.

Limitless.

I dropped my bag (it had been long forgotten anyways) and snaked my arms around his neck and he put his around my waist, as he pushed me up against his car, rendering us closer than ever before.

I didn't care what my friends thought of Jason, or that Ezra had cheated on me, because in this moment, everything was perfect.

When we parted, I looked into his soul searching eyes, only to find that they weren't searching for anything anymore, because he had already found what he needed. He found a reason to live, to fight, and he was never going to let it go.
