In The Wings

That's right, everyone, it's time for Rain's notoriously long author's note!

Well, hello there. Thank you for checking out In The Wings!

So, I'm here to explain a few things before you begin. In The Wings is a modern adaptation of the Phantom of the Opera, meaning that it's the same story taking place in modern day. I have mostly based my storyline off of Andrew Lloyd Weber's 1986 musical, using its events and characters and sometimes its songs, but there are also characters and events that I have taken from the original novel by Gaston Leurox. Of course, I do not own either of these and I do not claim to. Now, if all you've ever seen is the musical version, then there may be a few more surprises than those who have read the book, hehe. This is indeed an adaptation, meaning many things have been changed, the least of which being character names. I have added some new scenes and more ideas of my own. If it is my original idea, it is my property. Please, do not steal it. Thank you.

Now, moving on to some other copyright related issues. Both R&H Cinderella and the Light in the Piazza are real musicals. I use lyrics and scenes from the actual musical inside of my story. I do not own either of these, nor do I claim to. I recommend you watch both of them (you can find it on YouTube), but you most certainly do not need to watch them before reading this novel.

Of course, POTO is a very music-heavy show and story. But here's the sing: people in real life don't just break out into song. Often you will find that lyrics from the musical have been adapted into dialogue. However, sometimes characters do sing. This will be represented by quotation marks around italized text. For example: "Angel of Music, guide and guardian, grant to me your glory!" See, easy peasy. If there is a specific song that goes with a chapter, whether it be from the ALW musical or from Cinderella or the Light in the Piazza, I will most likely include it in the multimedia bar so that you can experience it yourself.

Another important part of my story is how it will be split up. Just like a classic opera, it will have different acts and scenes. This particular story will have five different acts, each with a different amount of scenes. Scenes may vary in length, and if necessary they may jump forwards in time. This allows me to keep the story going without having to add lots of filler and also allows for more flexibility than my typical chapters which I like to keep uniform for each story. I will be writing a longer author's note after the end of each act as well, informing you on what's coming up.
