Emery woke up in the same cell she was in before. But this time, she heard moaning. Grunts. Coughs. Jagged breaths.
She tried to see who it was, but it was pitch black down there.
"Is there someone else down here?"
But no reply. Only the same sounds over and over again.
She plugged her ears and rocked back and forth as far away from the noise as she could.
She wanted it to stop. She wanted to die. She couldn't handle the voice any longer.
She gasped. Voice.
"Help... Save me... I'm dying... NO!"
The voice was getting louder as she heard a clinking of chains and a cackle of laughter.
"Oh, yes. You are dying. And you are going to suffer. Oh, yes, you will watch earth BURN!"
"NOOOOO!"
She awoke in the same cell that she was in in the dream. She listened closely to try and hear the voice. But she was all by herself.
She sat there rocking back and forth as the sun started to wake. She smiled at all the colors as she noticed food sitting in front of her.
She grabbed the stale bread and ate it in 2 bites. The cold soup was better than she thought it would be as she drank.
She was happy to eat something. But she wasn't happy for long.
She heard footsteps getting louder as she eventually saw a shadow. She hid in a corner as a girl came up and unlocked her cell.
"C'mon, Emery, is it? We have to tell you some things you might want to know."
"Like what?"
"Like how you became a Telepath."
