If it were blood,
he would not have seen it.
If it was their hair,
he would not have felt it.
But if it was Emery,
He would have saved her.

She felt Emma's deep finger nails into her skull. She screamed and writhed in pain. She could not bear it much longer.
"Oh, Emery," Emma said in a taunting voice, "C'mon, don't you wanna have some fun?"
She scratched Emery's face as she cackled with laughter. She couldn't fight back. She couldn't think straight.
Are her fingers made of metal?, she thought.
Wait. Maybe they are...

Emeran heard Emma's cries for help. He heard Emma try to fight back. But Emery had got to her before she had the chance.
He smiled. But the smile didn't last long. The blackness was crawling back. Small, at first; but it soon fogged his vision. He started twitching and shaking. He heard Emery scream his name countless times, but it seemed to far away to grasp. He thought of it as just a memory. He wanted to leave.
"NO!"
"Emeran! Be quiet! Emma needs to do something." His mother was angry at him, he could tell.
"Okay, so, I, got an A+ on my math test. And Emeran only got a D-!" She started laughing as his mother glared at her. He felt his face heat up with anger.
"Emeran, is this true? Did you get a D?"
"No, mom," Emeran had to take several breaths before he realized his sister was standing up for him, "He got a D minus."
Emeran lost his temper and ran at Emma and slashed her in the face. His mother screamed at him, but he didn't care. He kept slashing at her, blood splashing over his face.
His mother tore them apart as Emma started to cry. She was screaming in pain.
"EMERAN!" His mother screamed, "WHERE DID YOU LEARN THAT VIOLENCE?!"
"Uhhhhh, I didn't."
"As a 2nd grader I want you to answer me. And keep in mind that you are never touching Emma again. You are being sent away right this instant. JOHN!"
But Emeran didn't care. He knew he would see Emma again. They were twins.
And she always showed up again.
