Nothing happened. Nothing happened.
I stared into the jug of pumpkin juice, deep in thought. Nothing happened, I thought to myself fiercely. Nothing happened... I don't think. I shook my head angrily, messing up my already messy hair. I had not slept a wink last night.
"Ellis, are you okay?"
"Yeah," I growled, not even bothering to look up to see who I was talking to.
"Is it that toe rag cousin of yours?" Toe-rag? There's only one person who says that...
I looked up to see Lily smiling at me. "Maybe," I admitted grudgingly.
"I thought so," she said gently. "Do you want to talk about it?"
I shook my head and she smiled. "I'm always here if you want to."
Without knowing what had come over me, I got up and hugged her. She looked slightly surprised but hugged me back.
"Thanks Lily," I whispered.
"Ellis?" I pulled away from the hug to see Lizzie fuming behind me.
"Oh hey Lizzie."
She glared at me, then turned and stormed away. Blimming heck, what did I do now? I cleared my throat. "I should probably go and see what's wrong." Lily was frowning after Lizzie.
"Is she your friend?"
I nodded. "Yeah, we've been friends since first year." Lily raised her eyebrows. "What?"
But then I heard a great booming laugh behind me and stiffened.
"LILY FLOWER! GOOOD MOOOOORRRRNNNIIINNNNGGGG!" I caught sight of my cousin weaving his way towards us, followed by Wormtail. James had a black eye and was limping slightly but did not betray any pain on his face.
"Oh grindelwald," muttered Lily. "I'll see you around Ellis."
"Wait Lily-" But she was gone.
"Hey little cousin!" sang James from behind me. I wheeled round.
"What the heck is wrong with you?!" I screamed at him and he looked shocked that I had even replied.
"Sorry?" he said shakily.
"You come over and start harassing one of my friends when we were talking and now you are acting as if we are best friends or something!"
"But we are, aren't we?"I huffed and made to turn around but he caught my arm. "HEY! Wait don't go!"
I narrowed my eyes at him, but stayed where I was.
"I've wanted to talk to you," he said, ruffling his hair nervously. I rolled my eyes.
"What do you want?"
"I just wanted to say..."
"Yes?"
"Erm well..."
"Spit it out." He took a deep breath in."I'm sorry okay?!" he shouted. "I have regretted that day for the rest of my life and I am really really sorry for what I said. I shouldn't have said anything and-"
"Yeah you shouldn't," I muttered, trying to block out the memories of that day.
"I was an idiot, a low and thick idiot! I'm not proud and I just want us to be okay again."
I turned to go but he caught my arm. "Ellis, don't make me beg."
I rolled my eyes. "Okay fine, I-"
"Ellis?" someone interrupted. I turned to see Severus, glaring at James. I smiled.
"Yes?"
"Lizzie wants to speak to you, remember?" James clicked his tongue, I could tell he was going to snap.
"Okay Sev." I smiled awkwardly at James, then walked away in the direction that Lizzie went in. James growled, then turned on his heel and stalked away. Sev put an arm around my waist and smirked. That was it.
I waited until we were out of the castle, before rounding on Sev. "Okay, what the heck is wrong with you?"
He blinked, then smoothed his face over to a patronizing leer. "What?"
I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. "Why are you being so...weird? I mean, around James and Sirius and them?"
"I don't know what you mean Ellis."
I glared at him. "You know exactly what I mean. Stop being so...dominant all the time. It's driving me mental."
He looked down for a second, then looked into my eyes and smiled. "Okay. I'm sorry. I just don't want them hurting you again."
I smiled at him, then looked around. "Where's Lizzie then?" His smiled faltered."Uh, she didn't actually want to talk to you. I just told her to say that so he would leave you alone."
I bit my lip, not wanting to fall out with Sev. But really, how hard was it to just get along?
-Sirius-
I hadn't spoken to James at all today. Moony kept trying to make me tell him what was wrong when I visited him in the hospital wing, but I didn't crack.
*flashback*
Remus sat up in bed, ignoring the throbbing pain in his head. I sat on the chair next to him, not really speaking, my mind hazy and filled with thoughts of a certain girl.
"So what's bothering you Padfoot?" I jumped out of my trance.
"Wha- nothing Moony, why would there be? What gives you the idea that there is something the matter?"
Remus rolled his eyes. "You're such a girl Sirius."
I jumped up indignantly at that. "What do you mean? I am as manly as a flipping rhinos backsi-"
Remus cut in quickly. "You never tell anyone what's bothering you, you just say nothing."
I sat back down. "Turning into a bit of a mind reader aren't you Moony?"
"Tell me."
"No."
"Your pride getting in the way?"I looked at him, annoyed. He was smirking. "Shut up Moony."
His smirk grew even wider. "I knew it! Sirius Orion Black-""The third," I muttered darkly.
"is in love with someone!"
I raised an eyebrow. "Flipping hell, you say I'm the girl?"
Remus giggled, WAIT WHAT? Moony is giggling. What the hell has Madame Pomfrey been giving him?
I stood up to go, then turned to the now sombre Remus. "Don't tell anyone Moony. Especially James." I then turned and walked out of the room.
*end of flashback*
See, I didn't tell him anything. Well, I didn't tell him who the girl may be, hell I didn't even confirm it!
Nothing happened anyway right? I mean, yeah we almost kissed but it was just spur of the moment. Not me and Moony, I'm talking about Ellis. I didn't like her. And I knew for a fact that she hated me. Ellis never spoke to us, last night was just a one off chance. Wasn't it?
I wish Prongs hadn't interrupted though. She looked so... so... I don't know. I couldn't like her. Prongs would never speak to me again. I am not loosing the only family I have, not even for her. What the heck, I don't even like her anyway!
There is something irresistible about a lost cause though...
