Lydia's POV:
The entire pack was at the school on a chilly evening, fighting the Nogitsune, a dark spirit that had taken over Stiles, making him Void. We had succeeded, luckily, and were making our way out of the school, when Stiles passed out, worrying all of us. We crowded around, terrified that he was dead. I couldn't lose him, I'd go crazy. I gripped onto his hand, hoping that he was okay. Just as I was prepared to break down, his eyes fluttered open.
"Oh god. I fainted, didn't I?" He asked as I let out a sigh of relief. "We're alive. We're all alive?"
"Yeah, we're okay." Scott reassured him with a small smile on his face.
But, we weren't okay, I heard muffled screams. I turn my head in the direction of the noises, and then it clicks. I sprint out of the school, panting as I hear the shrieks in my mind getting louder with every step I took. This could only mean one thing, someone was edging closer and closer to death, and I was sure it was a friend.
I burst through the double doors frantically. I knew there was no time to waste. I approached the stairs with Stiles trailing close behind me, and the screams were becoming unbearably loud in my mind. My feet stopped in their tracks as I spotted my boyfriend, Aiden laying on the ground, bleeding to death as his twin brother sobbed, clinging onto his arm.
Horrified and in shock, I whipped my head around and allowed myself to collapse into Stiles' chest as he wrapped his arms around me.
My breaths became short and frequent as tears stung the corners my eyes. Stiles ran his slender fingers through my strawberry blonde hair as we stood in silence. This couldn't be happening, I wouldn't accept it. I had just lost her. I couldn't lose two people within a week, it just wasn't fair, they deserved so much better. They deserved to be alive.
"Aiden..." I managed to gasp out.
"I'm sorry, Lydia." Stiles whispered into my hair.
"I-I'll be back." I sniffled, lip quivering as I wiggled out of Stiles' arms. "I need to go. I need to... I-I..."
"Do you want me to come?"
"No! I just want to say goodbye to him! I'm always saying goodbye!" I snapped, breaking down. As soon as I said it, I wished I could take it back. He stared at me with wide eyes, glossed over in pain. He was losing Aiden too.
"I'm sorry... That was wrong." I said, still crying.
"Don't worry about it... I'll just meet you at the car to drive you home. Take as much time as you need." He said with disappointment in his voice.
I felt guilty. Stiles was too good to me. He was always there, regardless of the time or place. He knew what I needed, he knew me better than I knew myself. Even though I pushed him away, he always found a way to stay.
I begin my journey down the stairs hesitantly, heels clicking over the concrete steps. I try my best to take deep breaths as my eyes remain locked on the situation. Derek rushes over when he catches a glimpse of me, taking my hand into his.
"Lydia... Are you sure you want to do this?" He cautions me.
"Yes. I'm positive, I just want to say goodbye."
"Okay... I'll be right here if you need me." He said, placing a hand on my shoulder with a sympathetic look in his eyes.
I nod gratefully and crouch down next to Ethan, who is obviously feeling the loss in his heart. I place my palm towards the top of his back.
"I know." I whisper, leaning my head on his shoulder.
"It should've been me." He cried.
"No, Ethan. It shouldn't have been anyone."
"It was the Oni... again. I tried to save him..." He whispers, still in shock.Flashback- 3 days later
"Allison!" I screamed, my high pitched scream bouncing off the walls of the empty tunnels.
I knew she was gone. I knew I had lost my best friend. The one person who saw me at my best, my worst, and everything in between yet still accepted me. I sobbed, leaning on an unconscious Stiles' shoulder. As much as I wanted to run to her, I knew I couldn't leave Stiles alone, so I curled up against him and waited for what felt like an eternity, but was only a few minutes.
"L-Lydia?" He asked groggily after regaining consciousness. "What happened? Why are you crying?"
I told him what I'd felt, I told him that I was sure Allison was gone. We ran through the tunnels, hands laced together. Soon, we approached a fence where Scott sat on the ground with Allison sleeping peacefully in his arms while he cried hysterically. I could barely catch my breath as I took a glance at my friend, lifeless, and pale.
"Sh-she's gone... The Oni... the Oni." He sniffled.
"No! Allison!" I shouted, eyes filling with tears as Stiles gripped my hand harder.•
"Lydia?" Ethan asked, shaking my arm gently.
"Oh... Sorry. It's just... a lot to take in."
I scooted closer to Aiden and placed my hand on his cheek, rubbing my thumb along his jaw.
"I know that you're a good guy... I just need you to know that. Thank you for being you and always standing by me, even though I didn't make it easy for you. I'm sorry... I'm so, so sorry." I cried.
I kissed his forehead and Ethan helped me to my feet. I gave him a warm hug and we decided it was time to head home. We approached Derek, leaning on each other for support.
"Okay... Do you guys have a ride?" He asked.
"Yeah. Ethan, you can come with Stiles and I."
"Thank you." He whispered, keeping his eyes on the ground, the truth of what happened was too much to handle.
"I'm sorry again. I tried, but it happened so fast." Derek reassured me.
"I know. Bye, Derek."•
"Are you gonna be alright?" I asked Ethan as we pulled into the driveway of his large, modern home.
"He would want me to be. Thank you for the ride, Stiles. Bye guys."
"Bye."
"Bye."
The remainder of the ride was silent, neither of us knew what to say. It was easier to be quiet than to talk about it and allow reality to sink in. I could tell he was worried, but we didn't share a single word until we pulled into my driveway.
"Thank you for being there for me. I shouldn't have yelled earlier."
"Don't apologize, Lyds. It's been a lot to handle this week... Want me to walk you in?"
"No thank you. I just want to be alone right now. See you later."
"Bye. I'm always here to talk, you know."
"Yeah. I know. Bye, Stiles. Thank you." I said, closing the car door behind me.
I ran up to my bedroom, passing my mom and slammed the door behind me. I sobbed and sobbed until I could finally calm myself down. I lost two of the most important people in my life in a matter of days.•
