The cold steel cut into Joanna's skin, leaving deep marks as a souvenir. Her eyes burned from the chance of the salty liquids leaving them. Her stomach heaved now at the thought of food.
She would die. She could feel it, smell it...

Joanna ignored the the baritone voices, for she was used to them. Although she strained to listen for so long, she had given up at the thought of seeing the owners faces.
The room filled with sodden blackness, every now and then the moon would play hide and seek from behind the clouds, casting odd lighting into the cell.

Joanna laid on the floor. Waiting for relief.
Death.

She stopped breathing, and scratched the burning itch on her cheek.
The voices were getting closer... with much curiosity she strained to pull out the words of the men.
They sounded hasty and frustrated
Then she heard it.
Goosebumps leapt upon her bare legs and skin, biting with excitement.
Tears formed in the corner of her eyes, out of an emotion so strong she felt terribly weak. But a different strength lit up like a sparkler.

"Let me see her!" He yelled.

His voice brought music to her ears, like listening to a piano after years of having not been able to.

Footsteps hit the ground heavily, sending her stomach into somersaults. She threw herself up against the bars of the cell, stumbling in the darkness.
With every fiber in her body, she fought the pull of her exhausted and deprived muscles, dragging her back down to that floor, but the little left of her heart, lifted her legs from the ground.
Without sight, without touch, she pressed her face as far out of the bars as possible. And stretched her arm through the thin gap, grasping the darkness.
Warmth flooded her bare skin. His scent enriched her senses so deeply, she moaned from joy.
He grasped her hand tightly. And came as close as the bars would allow. His touch illuminated her skin. Bringing life into her veins f or a time.
"Come here my love..." he whispered so gently, it nearly melted her. Tears rushed hurriedly from her eyes. Emotion flooding her like a storm. She sobbed with everything left of her. Her strength was gone, and he was the only thing holding her up.
"They won't hurt you anymore, I promise," he soothed. His voice silk and assuring.
Tears still running, she grabbed his face, and pulled it down to her, tracing his eyes with her work worn fingers. She felt the tears on his cheeks. The invisible stubbles on his jaw.
But she couldn't see his eyes...
She braced her face through the bars, and pulled him close to her lips.
" Oh, the nights I have longed to hear your voice and see your face.. Grant my dying wish, my darling."
Her voice so quiet, she pressed her lips against his, concealing her last wish ...
